    Arrested" is a play on preconceptions regarding social, ethnic, religious, and political affiliations.

    Artist Statement
    Although created ten years ago "Arrested" continues to comment meaningfully on the phenomena of social classification and judgment (seemingly) inherent in human society. What makes the project particularly interesting and poignant is that it encourages reflection on the systems of labeling and judgment that are both internal and external (to the self), and invites readers to observe their own biases (with a possible chuckle).

    "Arrested" employs a flipbook format in which offenders and offenses are randomly culled from database repositories. The flipbook's random display of elements offers up individualized texts to each audience. These in turn provide the opportunity for individual interpretation (internal visualization) and subsequent contemplation.

    "Arrested" is both serious and silly. It is the intermingling of these that potentially provides the impetus for change in regards to awareness of/attitudes towards difference, and fears associated therewith.

    Began to rise gradually in the years 1997 - 1999 as a fictional girls homepage. It is a multimedia novella consisting of 42 Website pages, text, images, animations and sounds. Text is in response to the time I spent heavily on chat (since 1995) and the possibility of an interesting experience any selection of their identity, which allows chat.     Un personnage, victime d’un meurtre, revient sur terre pour revivre ses dernières heures et tenter d’éviter l’issue fatale. Cet hypermédia utilise le mythe de Faust, ce qui favorise le repérage dans l’histoire. La question de la désorientation est ainsi traitée depuis la narration elle-même, ce qui évite de recourir à une interface apparente.     Blackout" computerspil og roman. Deadline (1997)

    "Blackout" var ikke alene mit første spilmanuskript. Det var også det første spil Deadline udgav og dermed noget af det, der fik dansk multimedia til at rulle i gang. En produktion med masser af folk der for første gang prøvede kræfter med mediet, men var klar til at give hvad som helst for at få det til at lykkes. Jeg tror der forliste tre ægteskaber under den produktion, men der kom et fantastisk produkt ud af det og møder man dem der arbejdede på det er det næsten som at høre en flok gamle soldaterkammerater. Det var en temmelig vigtig begivenhed for de fleste på produktionen.

    Recits voisins est le premier module mis en ligne sur oVosite. C'est aussi le plus complexe. Cet espace de lectures relie huit nouvelles autonomes en même temps qu'elles sont reliées entre elles par les destins croisés de personnages, associations poétiques ou élements naturels communs.

    Cet espace a été écrit et conçu à douze mains, six corps et têtes, et repose sur près de quatre cent cinquante liens répartis dans mille deux cent fichiers. Plus simplement, il s'agit d'un hypertexte qui ne renie pas la linéarité narrative mais tisse des passages latéraux…

  9. Lucid Mapping and Codex Transformissions in the Z-Buffer

    Lucid Mapping and Codex Transformissions in the Z-Buffer is an investigation of textual and narrative possibilities within three dimensional on-screen environments (specifically Virtual Reality Modeling Language, or VRML). Functionally, it is both a text to be read and a space to be surveyed. The various elements of the title -- "lucid mapping," "transformissions," "the Z-buffer" -- are all glossed within the VRML environment itself, so I will not discuss them in detail here. The project evolved from a set of early schematic models. These experiments in "spatial heuristics," as I called them, were not conceived as displays of technical virtuosity; rather, I hoped to begin exploring some of the questions raised by three-dimensional information spaces: How well suited are they to organizing documents according to the non-linear principles pioneered by hypertext developers? How can the addition of a third dimension extend (hyper)textual visualization? What are the conditions required for "narrative" in three-dimensional on-screen environments? And so on . . .

    Alphaweb is a hypertext consisting of poetry and ruminations, graphics, and fragments of the Coriolis Codex, suggesting (but hardly conclusively) a special relationship between angels and dragons. The work has at least three interpenetrating structures, approximately 250 areas and three times that many doors and passageways. The structure that is always present for orientation is the alphabetical structure; both the poems and the angels progress from A to Z, a comfort for those who like to proceed in an orderly fashion from A to Z, or at least to B. The stability of this structure is seriously compromised by built-in folds in the alphabet; because you can link to any letter from any area, the structure can be used to demolish itself at the behest of the traveler. A prolonged wander will reveal interior structures, jointly created by author and traveler, which are the work itself. The author suggests a dark room for optimum viewing of the graphics. --drs
