1. Eat Your Tits and Puppets

   An animated adaptation of a poem written by Claire Donato. Cascades of textual progressions -- appearances, disappearances, fades, mirrorings -- are scripted in detail and played back by a custom Java engine across two "pages." The work was presented and read by Claire Donato and Ian Hatcher at ELO_AI 2010 in Providence.

3. Welkom Vreemdeling (Welcome Stranger)

   Welcome stranger is ontworpen voor wachtruimtes en bestaat uit een animatie van dansende letters die steeds nieuwe verbanden vormen. Het geheel is gebaseerd op de uiteenlopende namen waarmee het spel ‘stoelendans’ in verschillende talen wordt aangeduid. Het werk kwam tot stand in het kader van het project Poëzie op het scherm, dat eens in de twee jaar gezamenlijk door het Nederlands Letterenfonds en het Mondriaan Fonds (voorheen Fonds BKVB) is georganiseerd.

   This generative sequence of poems are based on a carefully scheduled sequence of changes: words fade in and out, letters fade in and out to transform words, spacing changes in words to produce different meanings or direct our attention to the etymology of words, alternate spellings, homophones, and puns replace words to subvert traditional meanings, and much more happens in this sequence of 105 poems. 7. Gravity Clock

   Gravity clock visualizes the passage of time by the permanent destruction and reconstruction of the clock-face. Every second the hand breaks numbers out of the dial and lets them drop to the floor where they get buried by the following numbers and eventually wither away to make room for the endless succession of time.

8. Dig

   "Dig" by Steve Duffy uses Javascript to create an elegant representation of verbal conflict in simple white text on black background. Through the use of floating frames and marquees, the harsh reality of "digs," or emotional, sarcastic jabs at a person, are cleverly represented in a case where less is more. The absence of audio allows for readers to focus where they should: the startling white text scrolling quickly along the black background. The text also moves at varying speeds from left to right and right to left, creating an interesting visual experience.

   Readers get a sense of the conflict through passages like, “Everything you tell me is true but you lie lie lie," and "No-words mean more than some words. Each word worms its way out of things… Here is the blind mole driven to dig. I'm a poor creature, deluded, digging in the text. I don't believe a word of it." As the text flows in both directions, Duffy illustrates how people can dig themselves deeper and deeper as arguments escalate.

   abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz is a sound toy, a performance tool and an art work in its own right. You can play with the letter-creatures and watch and listen how they interact with each other or use them to produce soundscapes like you would with an electronic musical instrument. abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz blends art, biology, fun and physics to create a unique, dynamic and interactive sound ecology.

   This app is the result of joerg piringer's ongoing research of vocal sounds and their relation to dynamic typography in the form of performance, video and software art.
