  1. Developing: the Idea of Home

    If, as Henri Lefebvre asserted, "spatial thinking" involves several different ways of conceptualizing space-as idea, as lived, as imagined-then perhaps an open system of examples can generate new ideas about "home" in the future. This is an experiment in reading; the CD-ROM is organized in an associative manner, since the subject radiates in so many different directions. There is obviously a "direction" here, that is no hidden-but the user may peruse and reconnect the fabric of the piece in many different ways. And, if our habitat may be located within a given social order, defined by economics, culture, and history, these forces must be viewed as interacting, rather than fixed.

  2. COG (I)

     COG is a user-interactive experiment in the visual possibilities of a poem. Accordingly, COG contains textual and visual material that determines its field of expression. However, as a user is wont to bring their baggage to any reading of a poem, why not give in and leave certain dynamics of the composition in the reader's hands? The idea is that, as visual and lexical materials are never fixed -- most certainly not in the mind of a user -- hot spots here allow programmed aesthetic modulations of the composition. These provide slight alterations of the composition, offering alternative vantage points in the visual field that are subtle, not chaotic but cotangential. This is not an exercise about impenetrability; rather, COG offers a Zen garden of visual verbal shades that awaits the subtle strokes of the viewer's rake-cum-Rodentia.

  3. Moment

    This is a generative poem you can visit for years and continue to find things to surprise and delight. It is structured around a text— aptly named as “a strand” (as in a fiber or rope made of letters or characters)— which is shaped by “aspects,” which are programmed structures that shape and transform the strands through color, animation, scheduling, formatting, and other transformations possible in DHTML. Considering there are 10 “strands” (plus a “user-fed strand”) each of which can be shaped by 36 different “aspects,” each of which can have multiple controls and toggles, you don’t have to do the math to realize that this is a work of staggering generative possibilities. Combined with a few randomization and combinatorial touches, this is a work that will always welcome you with fresh moments, inviting you to play with its structures.   4. Video Blog::Vog

    This interactive video poem highlights the use of collage that is so central to Web work that one of the first Web browsers was called Mosaic. This artistic technique builds a whole out of parts, much like a Web browser assembles a coherent display document out of different kinds of electronic objects, often in different locations on a network. Formats like Flash or Quicktime produce an illusion of unity by mixing together multiple elements and packaging them for export as a single proprietary file.

  5. Bluzgator generator

    “Bluzgator Bis by Paweł Kozioł, a text generator based on the web distributed Bluzgator application, popular among teenagers, which functions as a generator of random swear words. Kozioł uses the mechanism of the prototype but changes its content. The database of words, phrases and sentences in Bis version comes from Textylia bis – an anthology of young literature, from the Polish weekly “Polityka” and from the “Ha!art” magazine. Users of Bluzgator Bis can choose the recipient of the text (woman, man or group of people), its style (proper, full sentences or internet slang), the size of the output (from one to 200 sentences) and its visual appearance.

  6. New York City Map

    My most extensive internet project, New York City Map, is a sort of virtual guide to the most interesting parts of New York City (at least from my point of view). But it isn't a guide in the usual sense. While "walking" through these Web pages you can, as you choose, find yourself "standing" on a particular street, you can walk or go by subway direction you want, you can meet people and even "talk to them". In contrast to traditional maps, the aim of NYCMap is not to document the layout of the city or point out its most famous tourist attractions. With the NYCMap I've tried to capture the atmosphere, the energy, or that Something which I think makes New York City so curiously different from other cities with skyscrapers.     Began to rise gradually in the years 1997 - 1999 as a fictional girls homepage. It is a multimedia novella consisting of 42 Website pages, text, images, animations and sounds. Text is in response to the time I spent heavily on chat (since 1995) and the possibility of an interesting experience any selection of their identity, which allows chat.   8. Closed Reality – Embryo

    The project is not a fictive game with still unexamined possibilities of genetics and it does not aim to popularize scientific discoveries. It is rather a sort of experimental observation of the development of consciousness and science. It raises a simple question: To what extent are we prepared to participate in all that we have made possible and that we yearn to make possible for ourselves? The project is based on an interactive game played on the Internet. Choosing among different genetically determined traits the players (participants in the project) create virtual embryos - their own virtual progeny. The created embryos are exhibited in an "embryo gallery". In the second phase of the project the society of virtual people created by Internet users is compared with the inhabitants of a "real" society. Monthly reports containing data analyses were issued during the first 6 months of the project. All Internet users willing to take part in the project are invited to join the mailing list, discuss the actual issues of genetic engineering and cloning, comment on the presented ideas, etc.

  9. Como el cielo los ojos (Like the sky the eyes)

    Como el cielo los ojos se concibe desde el primer momento como una novela hipertextual: como un juego de vínculos y de relaciones intertextuales. Una vez que pulsamos en el acceso a la novela, aparece ante nosotros una cuadrícula, en la que cada sección está ocupada por un ojo. En el eje vertical leemos tres nombres (Javier, Iñaqui y Paco) y el eje horizontal está numerado del uno al trece. Tres personajes, trece tiempos y una sola novela, un solo acontecimiento desencadenador: «Isabel ha muerto...» No sólo importa el texto en cuanto a la narración sino que la disposición ocupa un lugar principal: «Seleccione personaje y tiempo pulsando sobre un ojo en la cuadrícula» rezan unas líneas en negrita.   10. Archiving Electronic Literature and Poetry: Problems, Tendencies, Perspectives

    Electronic literature and E-Poetry is updated, interactive, subjective and well networked. But how durable is it? How long do texts published on web pages remain readable? It seems ironic that the transient character of the internet is attached to a medium that seems to be very suitable for documentation and archiving. All information is automatically digitally recorded and processed. This enables digital storage and retrieval as well as mirroring on different servers. There already exist a number of (often private) archive platforms that should be systematically supplemented by extensive archiving by national libraries. And still each website only remains available on the internet at its original address for less than 100 days on average. Afterwards it moves or is erased completely. This is of course also the case for Net literature. Projects can furthermore no longer be playable because their contents required plugins that are outdated; or they are only optimized for certain, old browser versions and no longer work on newer browsers.
