  2. The Dionaea House

The Dionaea House is a horror hypertext fiction with a plot revolving around a predatory, supernatural house which exists in multiple places at once. The work's title references the Latin name of the Venus flytrap (Dionaea Muscipula), a carnivorous plant with multiple heads which uses scent to lure in insects, that it then traps and consumes.

The Dionaea House’s story is split into multiple, loosely connected parts, each either hosted as an individual website or a blog.

The central hub of the story was hosted on a website entitled "The Dionaea House: Correspondence from Mark Condry, September 6, 2004 - October 1, 2004". This site, maintained by a fictional version of the author Eric Heisserer, is split into into two sections. The first section details a series of emails received from Mark Condry, an old friend of Eric’s who has received a newspaper clipping in the mail describing a double murder and suicide committed by another old friend, Andrew. Mark decides to investigate, but disappears after sending a series of text messages from within a house that irrevocably changed Andrew.

  3. El cerebro de Edgardo (El inventor de historias)

El inventor de historias -The Stories Inventor- is a net that articulates texts, images –reproductions and photography, digital audiovisual installations and diverse conferences and seminars. In the Internet we can see Edgardo’s brain-the inventor-in action. Edgardo, tells stories of every kind. This narrative emerges from the random algorithm that moves through a semantic web, recombining words and keeping correct grammar. This net is represented in 3D using visualization, with this the “brain” of Edgardo can be discovered. The complete installation is composed by the brain –digital algorithm-, the face –video- and the body –photography.

  4. Bacterias Argentinas

Bacterias argentinas is a dynamic model of autonomous agents that recombine genetic information eating one each other and where the genetic information is a narrative. The energy and staff circulate. Word is energy. A version of this model was used in the exhibition Juego doble (Double Game) in Mexico D.F. (Source: Maya Zalbidea) In bacterias argentinas Colombian digital artist and data visualization developer Santiago Ortiz creates a linguistic-multicellular environment that models the interactions between basic organisms in a virtual ecosystem. In Ortiz’s words, it is “a dynamic model of autonomous agents that remix genetic information by consuming one another, and in which genetic information is narrative.” In this Flash work, Ortiz explores the question of life as information by mapping linguistic elements onto color-coded “bacteria” that circulate freely in this bio-linguistic ecology.

  5. El alebrije

Going through markets and bazaars of antiquities in Mexico, the photographer Iris Talbot discovers the diary and the Alebrije -a wood fantastic figure-of the traveller Santiago Lince. Iris starts to study and search for documentation about the characters and events that are told in him, conforming a bestiary of beings from chaos and an encyclopaedia that illustrates the fantastic and long story of the man in search of the conscience, while he goes across a contemporaneous Mexico full of magic and colourful contradictions, infested by voices of calacas -skeletons- and alebrijes. The proyect "El Alebrije" gathers artistic disciplines such as literature and script, acoustic programmed music, electronic, animation and photography, to achieve as a result a multimedial project whose aim is to integrate a nonlineal interactive narrative on a Web format.

  7. The Idea of Order at Key West Reordered

Plays random sections of a recording of Wallace Stevens reading The Idea of Order at Key West. Click the waveform to play the poem at the corresponding point in time. Blue and green are special colors in the poetry of Stevens. Green for the earth, for nature, for the quotidian, the worldly. Blue for the sky, imagination, the ethereal, thought and dream.

  8. VAS: An Opera in Flatland

Up until now, everyone alive on earth was bound to one another through African Eve, our last common ancestor, who 5,000 generations ago passed her genes and language to sons and daughters who did the same as they gradually populated the world. Today, however, Square, Circle and the other inhabitants of Flatland have the opportunity to step outside this lineage. To rearrange the bodies of animals, plants, and even themselves. VAS: An Opera in Flatland is the story of Square’s decision to undergo an operation that will leave him sterile for the good of his wife, Circle, for the good of their daughter, Oval, and for the good of society, including the unborn descendants he will never have. VAS is, in other words, the story of finding one’s identity within the double-helix of language and lineage—and Square’s struggle to see beyond the common pages of ordinary, daily life upon which he is drawn.

  9. The Right Number

The Right Number is a projected three-part online graphic novella about math, sex, obsession and phone numbers presented in an unusual zooming format.

Part Three was delayed due to severe hand strain problems on my part a few years ago and delayed again when I began work on Making Comics. I do still hope to finish the third and final chapter and make it available at some point in the future. Part Three will also be offered free through this page. (Sorry for the delay!)

The Right Number was originally presented in June 2003 using a micropayments system offered by a company called Bitpass, sold for 25 cents each. Since Bitpass ceased operations in January 2007, I'm offering Parts One and Two for free now.

Although the The Right Number was an experimental story in an experimental format (originally using an experimental payment system) I like it as a story and I hope you will too.

  10. ___Hallelujah

Hallelujah (to use the short form of the title) is a work of “monitor poetry” by ni_ka. Every page of her blog has bursts of flowers, hearts, and other graphics dense enough to obscure the screen; this version presents only the text “underneath.”
