  3. Digital Literature: Theoretical and Aesthetic Reflections

    The emergence of a new phenomenon – digital literature – within the field of
    literary studies calls for the reorganization and creation of new theoretical and
    analytical repertoires. As models of communication change, so do
    reception and production processes accompanying these changes. Within these
    altered scenarios, the dissertation Digital Literature: Theoretical and Aesthetic
    Reflections is a response to the aesthetic and theoretical challenges brought on by
    computer-based literature. As a methodological strategy, the dissertation articulates
    recent trends in the theory of digital aesthetics – remediation (BOLTER),
    eventilization (HAYLES), correlations of performativity, intermediality and
    interactivity with meaning-driven analysis (SIMANOWSKI), Medienumbrüche
    (GENDOLLA & SCHÄFER) – with theories of production of presence
    (GUMBRECHT), autopoietic communicative models (LUHMANN) and closereadings
    of digital works. By scripting a dialogue with key theorists from print

    Breeze developed, and continues to write in, the hybrid language mezangelle. Her unorthodox use of language demonstrates the ubiquity of digitization and the intersections of the digital and the real that are increasingly common in 21st century life.   6. Adventures in Transition: Jason Nelson’s Scary Journey from Flash to J-Code and Desk to Hand

    Perhaps the most disturbing and exciting periods of a digital poet’s creative practice is the transitional period between using one technology and learning another. For the past eight years I’ve been predominately a user of Adobe Flash. I say user, because in many ways
    the software is a drug, carving response and reward pathways into the cranium fibers. My creations have been the beneficiary of a tool ideal for multi-layered/dimensional and interactive artworks viewable on all major platforms. However, it is this platform issue and Adobe’s losing
    position in its battle with the Tyrant Apple that is quickly making Flash obsolete, unplayable in the fastest growing segment of electronic devices, tablets and phones. This very well might turn around and Flash might save itself. But suffice it to say, the net/portable creative ndustries have left Flash to fend for itself.

  8. Poëzie loont (Poetry pays off)

    Onder dat credo ontwikkelden dichter Arnoud van Adrichem en grafisch ontwerpers Cox & Grusenmeyer de mobiele browser 'Geld', waarmee hardwerkende belastingbetalers hun belastingcenten kunnen terugverdienen door gedichten te lezen. Hoe werkt het? Alle banken in Amsterdam zijn voorzien van duidelijk herkenbare stickers die kunnen worden gescand met een smartphone of tablet. De gedichten die dan zichtbaar worden leveren elk 0,11 euro op; een bedrag dat ongeveer overeenkomt met het belastinggeld dat iemand met een gemiddeld jaarkomen dagelijks kwijt is aan cultuur. 'Money is a kind of poetry', stelde Wallace Stevens ooit. Deze applicatie bewijst eens te meer zijn gelijk.

  9. Een latente meertaligheid

    Een latente meertaligheid is een interactieve tekstcompilatie die uitmondt in een steeds wisselende polyfone woord-beeldcompositie. De bezoeker kan naar eigen inzicht de zes sequenties waaruit dit werk is opgebouwd, aanzetten, in elkaar laten vloeien of weer uitzetten. Dit filmpje is onderdeel van het project Zelf worden.

  10. Welkom Vreemdeling (Welcome Stranger)

    Welcome stranger is ontworpen voor wachtruimtes en bestaat uit een animatie van dansende letters die steeds nieuwe verbanden vormen. Het geheel is gebaseerd op de uiteenlopende namen waarmee het spel ‘stoelendans’ in verschillende talen wordt aangeduid. Het werk kwam tot stand in het kader van het project Poëzie op het scherm, dat eens in de twee jaar gezamenlijk door het Nederlands Letterenfonds en het Mondriaan Fonds (voorheen Fonds BKVB) is georganiseerd.
