  2. Corporate Text Cannibal

    The work presented a remix of academic texts devoted to creative cannibalism championed by scholars such as Roberto Simanowski and Chris Funkhouser; another scholarly topic remixed was remixology in reference to Mark Amerika. All textual sources together with lyrics by Grace Jones ("Digital Cannibal") were cannibalized into a poem written by the author. It was performed timely filling Jones' refrain, while a number of minimized browser-windows scattered over the projected wall screened the music-video upon deferred-activation.

    abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz is a sound toy, a performance tool and an art work in its own right. You can play with the letter-creatures and watch and listen how they interact with each other or use them to produce soundscapes like you would with an electronic musical instrument. abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz blends art, biology, fun and physics to create a unique, dynamic and interactive sound ecology.

    This app is the result of joerg piringer's ongoing research of vocal sounds and their relation to dynamic typography in the form of performance, video and software art.

  4. (S)PACING

    (S)PACING is a poetic performance piece that reflects upon the nervous habit of pacing and ideas of internal dialogue while walking as a source of poetic inspiration and contemplation, if not procrastination. The application for performance can either be played on the keyboard, or use live video motion tracking to access and combine screen-based still image, video, text, and audio content. The title of the piece refers not only to the act of pacing but also to pacing as a measure of time. The addition of the (s) at the beginning of the title, rendering the title spacing, could be said to refer not only to the locative and defamiliarizing spatial variations in the piece but also to formal aspects of poetry such as meter, feet, line breaks and stanzas. Though the performance, the actions of the performer may be fundamentally pedestrian they are put in contrast with mental and poetic machination in terms of the poetic output generated by the movement. In effect, the performer develops a system of, and has live action control over the scansion of the generated poem while handing over control of the vocalizations, imagery, and textual display to the application.

  5. The Famous Sound of Absolute Wreaders

    A project by Johannes Auer for the ORF Kunstradio, Vienna. With: Reinhard Doehl, Sylvia Egger, Oliver Gassner, Martina Kieninger, Beat Suter und René Bauer Performer: Christiane Maschajechi, Stuttgart Peter Gorges, Stuttgart
    6 net authors generate a text on the others' web projects. 2 narrators/announcers perform the texts in form of a collage, remix, dialogue and (white) noise. 6 net authors form a new netart projects using the texts of the others. The radio version of this net project consists of four parts which add up to a radio play that represents different grades of (human) control: Part 1 is a kind of hand-made collage of the complete written material and, thus, is controlled "by human". For Part 2, the text modules of this collage were re-assembled by the computer (randomly "generated") - human control was abandoned. In Part 3, the announcers comment on this computer-generated collage - bringing human control back in (but at the same time infiltrating the meaning of authorship). In Part 4, finally, the announcers themselves lose control due to t heir being under the influence of alcohol ...

    Framed by various folktales, "Contemplating Flight" explores established female representations and further tests the limitations of participation in a challenging narrative grammatology.

    Like previous artworks on 6amhoover.com "Contemplating Flight" explores the interplay between digital narrative, image and interaction. It aims to question the paradigm of interaction equating to empowerment.

    Bettelheim like many ponders the importance of the forest "Since ancient times the near impenetrable forest in which we get lost has symbolized the dark, hidden, near-impenetrable world of our unconscious. If we have lost the framework which gave structure to our past life and must now find our way to become ourselves, and have entered this wilderness with an as yet undeveloped personality, when we succeed in finding our way out we shall emerge with a much more highly developed humanity."   7. Postales

    A woman leaves her country. She tries to meet vacant spaces, to forget paths. She's considering the new territory. She's not stopping. A trip is more a seeking than an adventure. The decision to leave a country first comes from the will to break apart of the family circle, with the blind old uses, and over all, the will to get out from a cocoon, and take the way of self-modification.

    Sequences are derogating, asking for answers, facing or not each other. A quest or an escape, or simply to be a Labyrinth, where images goes back to the target, in the central node of it's performance and its hopeless thoughts: the nude, the nude flesh of life.

  8. Slamming the Sonnet

    Slamming the Sonnet is a website emerging from the collaborative partnership of Jayne Fenton Keane (poet) and David Keane (artist and programmer). It investigates the construction of virtual bodies by using Slam poetry as a device to explore implications of re-theorizing the role of authors in habitats of poetry that are made of technological flesh rather than processed tree matter.

    This site investigates alternative models of interactivity through engagement with a virtual body made of space, movement, sound and flesh. It becomes terra electra, replete with multiple species of texts, some of which evolve in direct response to the user's actions. It becomes a dismembered cyborg that becomes a part of you as you navigate through it; as your senses are seduced by its voices, breathing and gaze. In other words, it interacts with you beyond the computer screen; it infiltrates your body. It subverts identity and creates a hyperreal competition where everyone is given equal status in its time and space: dead or alive, famous or unknown.

  9. Machine Libertine

    Machine Libertine is media poetry group. The method of our work is the exploration of the role of media in the development of literary art practices including video poetry, text generators and performance art. The main principles of the group are formulated in our Machine Poetry Manifesto pointing out the idea of liberation of the machines from the routine tasks and increasing the intensity of their use for creative and educational practices. Machine Libertine had been founded in December 2010 starting with a video poetry called Snow Queen, a piece for British Council and presented recently at Purple Blurb series at MIT and Harvard. It is a combination of masculine poetry «Poison Tree» by William Blake contrasted to mechanic female MacOS voice and cubistic video imagery of Souzfilm animation «Snow Queen» (1957). We are exploring how the text can be transformed by mechanized reading and visualizing it and what are the possible limits of this transmedia play of interpretation.

  10. The Wave

    The Wave Electronic Illuminated Hypertext is a multisensory etext derived from a series of new media performances. The work explores and articulates a collection of meditations on myth, metaphor, and digital embodiment.

    An interactive assemblage of images, videodance, sound, animation, iconography, and text, The Wave creates an electronic architecture of hyper-dimensional poetic language. This electronic architecture expands and redefines the dramatic text as a fluid, animated, interactive infrastructure that exists in a liminal hyperspace between text and performance. The work expands and redefines the dance as dynamic, sensate, experiential process of inner transformation integrating the mind, body, and senses in metaphorical movement.
