Cultures in Webs: Working in Hypermedia with the Documentary Image
This CD-ROM explores how hypertextual writing and image-making merge in creating projects with nonfiction materials such as photographs, video clips, audio recordings and observational notes. The work includes two hypertextual field projects, one concerning a wine harvest in Burgundy, France, and the other concerning a series of performances in Ghana. The project uses an html-based format to weave among differing modes of writing and image-presentation. The section "The Harvest" was selected for exhibition in the 2001 ELO "State Of The Arts" symposium gallery. Based on two months of participant observation working the harvest at a small vineyard in France, the project combines diaristic writing, visual notes, dialog, exposition, and other forms of writing alongside a fifty-four image sequence. The work also includes videos and slide shows. "Concealed Narratives" offers two routes, interactive paths by which users travel to a series of public events in Ghana. The work explores how cultural battles are imagined and how stories get expressed through performances, visual tropes, and metaphors.

Catalogue: Nothingness
"CATALOGUE: Nothingness" uses description, image, email and javascript to interrogate some of the cultural and mechanical forms that operate in online shopping. The work is designed to exist on a parallel plane with commercial shopping sites and to offer a menu of small interventions that extend outward into the world. The theme of nothingness was chosen for the catalogue in order to defamiliarize common structures found in online shops by substituting imaginary objects, states of being, and existential drama for regular items and marketing strategies.

Modern Moral Fairy Tales
Modern Moral Fairy Tales is a tale told in 18 (chai) nodes. The story has two main lines--an upfront fairy tale dealing with greed, isolation, Nigerian scams, and online learning. The shadow story for this main line concerns a sentient internet cafe and a state run dissemination of information or suppression of information, depending on how you approach it. MaJe thought this was waaaaay too dark, and hid an Official History of Salmon in Clear Water Ravines, which posits a much better society--under the waves. Her shadow story handles the day to day life of salmon, from financial news to recent literary acquisitions.

Forest
Pandemonia was a project that sprawled over four years in its making during a period of my life when I was focused on writing hyperfiction. It metamorphosed many times, and with each emergence spawned more complexity.
Pandemonia Is
- A persistent narrative system which tracks the reader as they interact with the content.
- A content management system enabling writers with little technical background to write hypertext fiction.

Simultan
Simultan ist ein kollaboratives Hypertext-Projekt, das am Schweizerischen Literaturinstitut (SLI) der Hochschule der Künste Bern (HKB) mit Studierenden zwischen Herbst 2007 und Frühjahr 2012 durchgeführt wurde. Konzipiert und geleitet wurde das Projekt von Urs Richle.
Die vier Hauptprojekte : "Bielarium", "Alliance Abstract", "Le Carnet de rendez-vous" und "Ich bin ein ehrbarer Bürger/D'honnêtes citoyens" sind zum Teil untereinander durch Ereignisse und Figuren verbunden, bilden aber für sich je einen eigenen Erzählraum.

Going through the Signs
This collaborative hypertext poem uses a “page space” designed by Zellen to create a sequence of pop-up windows that last 20 seconds before closing along with links that lead to new pop-up windows, simultaneously closing the previous one, and leading to a final page with three thin vertical frames. This produces a powerful sense of progression in which the reader must press on or have to start over while not providing any way to get back to an earlier page. Larsen uses this structure to build a trail of consciousness which includes the thoughts of a character seeking a path and sense of purpose in a world that seems to have the former, but not the latter. Into the Green Green Mud
A story of love, and after-love. Eternity is a fickle thing, and the moments just keep coming. Clouds shift, the sun moves past, and squirrels are collecting nuts, so where does that leave us?
Into the Green Green Mud is an ode to change & impermanence, both in content and medium. Starting from a simple text “script” we are creating a number of inter-related “performances” in various media. This version includes text, images, code, and animation, with a soundtrack that you can download and listen to. Future versions might include a printed book, a live multimedia performance, sky writing, or anything else we decide to explore.

Incarnation: Heart of the Maze
This lyrically powerful hypertext poem is inspired and informed by a large number of sources, primarily on mythology (mostly Greek) and labyrinths (mandala shaped ones). Centered upon the Minotaur myth, the labyrinth Daedalus and Icarus built to contain it, Ariadne and the Minotaur himself, the poem gives a voice to some of these characters, representing them visually with an image of a portion of the mandala-shaped stone maze, and a body part (in the name given to the node. The hypertext is structured like a mandala, allowing readers to take direct paths in towards a center space with its own nodes. The interface also allows for lateral or circular movement across voices, placing them in conversation with one another and allowing readers to spiral in towards the center. Oisleánd: Indra's Net IX
Oisleánd is a hypertext work using mesostic techniques to combine two translations of one text. The "performance text" is generated by taking each letter in either the Irish poem "Oileán" or its English interpretation "Island", and substituting it with a full word from the other version (containing that letter). Thus, a new poem - either "English in Irish" or "Irish in English" is built, to use the author's words.
