2. Making Connections Visible: Building a Knowledge Base for Electronic Literature

   Developing a Network-Based Creative Community: Electronic Literature as a Model of Creativity and Innovation in Practice (ELMCIP) is a collaborative research project funded by the Humanities in the European Research Area (HERA) JRP for Creativity and Innovation. Focusing on the electronic literature community in Europe as a model of networked creativity and innovation in practice, ELMCIP is intended both to study the formation and interactions of that community and also to further electronic literature research and practice in Europe. The ELMCIP Knowledge Base is a publicly accessible online database that focuses on capturing core bibliographic data and archival materials about authors, creative works, critical writing, events, organizations, publishers, and teaching resources and on making visible the connections between creative and scholarly activities in the field.

   This presentation will focus on three aspects of the ELMCIP Knowledge Base in particular:

   1) Cross-referencing to make visible the emergence of creative and scholarly communities of practice

3. Getting Started in the Digital Humanities Panel Discussion (ELMCIP)

   A roundtable discussion featuring seven experts from large digital humanities projects. Panelists were given three minutes to explain, briefly, their current digital humanities project before the moderator asked a series of questions that included variations of the following: How did you move "to the next level" in DH? What challenges have you faced doing DH work? How have you funded your work? The bulk of the discussion was devoted to questions from the audience.

   Hands-on workshop session during which the editor of the ELMCIP Knowledge Base, Eric Dean Rasmussen, will instruct participants on how to document and archive their research and teaching materials in a publicly searchable database on electronic literature.

8. Bootstrapping Electronic Literature: An Introduction to the ELMCIP Project

   Developing a Network-Based Creative Community: Electronic Literature as a Model of Creativity and Innovation in Practice (ELMCIP) is a three-year (June 2010-June 2013) collaborative research project funded by HERA, the Humanities in the European Research Area framework, sponsored by EU FP7 and the national research councils of the countries participating in the framework. The project has involved researchers from seven institutions in six European nations, who together have produced seven events including seminars, workshops and the Remediating the Social conference and exhibition, documented by this volume, Remediating the Social.

10. Developing a Network-Based Creative Community: Electronic Literature as Model of Creativity and Innovation in Practice (ELMCIP)

    This talk for the Archive & Innovate conference will present to the ELO community a new major research project and research network focused on electronic literature in Europe. ELMCIP is a 3-year collaborative research project that will run from Spring 2010-2013 and funded under the Humanities in the European Research Area (HERA) theme: 'Humanities as a Source of Creativity and Innovation.' ELMCIP involves seven European research partners (University of Bergen, Edinburgh College of Art, Blekinge Technical Institute, Univeristy College Falmouth, University of Jyväskylä, University of Amsterdam, and University of Ljubjlana) and one non-academic partner (New Media Scotland) who will investigate how creative communities of practitioners form within a transnational and transcultural context in a globalized and distributed communication environment.
    The research goals of the project are to:
    • Understand how creative communities form and interact through distributed media
    • Document and evaluate various models and forces of creative communities in the field of electronic literature
