  2. Mystery House Taken Over

The Mystery House Advance Team has reverse engineered Mystery House, the first text-and-graphics adventure game. Members of the Advance Team have reimplemented it in a modern, cross-platform, free language for interactive fiction development, and have fashioned a kit to allow others to easily modify this early game.

Modified versions of Mystery House have been created by the elite Mystery House Occupation Force, consisting of individuals from the interactive fiction, electronic literature, and net art communities:

  3. A crissxross trail < R3/\/\1X\/\/0RX: one remix player's scenic route through remixworx

A crissxross trail < R3/\/\1X\/\/0RX is a meta-remix of the artist's personal creative journey through remixworx, a collaborative online remixing project. Conceived as a poetic interactive infographic with lots of multimedia animated content, this 'scenic route' presents a sample trail of 33 out of the 100 remixes that Christine Wilks (aka crissxross) has created since joining remixworx in January 2007. The trail includes a text commentary about her experience of remixing and co-creating over the past six years. A crissxross trail < R3/\/\1X\/\/0RX: one remix player's scenic route through remixworx formed the core of Christine Wilks's presentation for the ELMCIP Conference on Remediating the Social in November 2012.

  4. MUPS

MUPS (MashUPs) is an online sonic mashup engine
built in 2012 in Flash (sorry iOS users) by Jhave
for the sheer pleasure of simultaneity.

MUPS has been seeded with the following content:

    PennSound MUPS
    1260 audio poems
    from the PennSound archives.

These audio files are used with permission.
I gratefully acknowledge the generosity of Charles Bernstein
and the encouragement of Christopher Funkhouser.

How does it work: MUPS can play multiple audio files (up to 32 streams) simultaneously. It can also WEAVE those files: by playing short segments of each voice until it encounters silence, then playing the next voice. MUPS offers users control over how the WEAVE occurs.

Issues: after extended use, MUPS can get confused.
    Refresh your browser. Enjoy.

  5. Remix Writing and Postproduction Art (Workshop)

What is remixology? What is postproduction art (PP Art)?

In this workshop, we will investigate a small selection of experimental literary texts, websites, music videos, and audio tracks that employ different remix strategies to develop new works of art. These remix artworks will trigger a more general discussion on the emergence of hybridized art forms that are growing out of a thriving interdisciplinary media arts scene.

Media art forms that will make their way into the workshop mix include electronic literature, net art, digital video, and live A/V performance.

Given our time limitations, the workshop will be targeted at introducing participants to the way contemporary media artists may turn to remix and/or postproduction methods to create unexpected works of art.

    Questions . . .
Can you imagine remixing Gertrude Stein's "Tender Buttons" into a philosophical treatise on technicity and the loop and then using the treatise as a script for your spoken word performance in Second Life?

  6. OneSmallStep: a MySpace LuvStory

"OneSmallStep: a MySpace LuvStory" is an unfolding automated jam—a conscious sampling and randomized regurgitation of MySpace.com media archeology wherein desire, fantasy and fetish form a composted feast for the withered and lonely senses in an eternally habitual loop of voyeuristic consumption, spectacular regurgitation, virtual intimacy and identity production/consumption.

    Artist Statement

We are not ourselves. We cut and paste as we are cut and pasted. We are the remix of images and sounds that never existed outside of this mediated dream. And we are happy to exist this way.

"OneSmallStep: a MySpace LuvStory" is an unfolding automated jam - a conscious sampling and randomized regurgitation of MySpace.com media archeology wherein desire, fantasy and fetish form a composted feast for the withered and lonely senses in an eternally habitual loop of voyeuristic consumption, spectacular regurgitation, virtual intimacy and identity production/consumption.

With each launch, "OneSmallStep" runs continuously while randomly remixing content from a database that is periodically updated.

  8. ilvyrgif

I Love Yr GIF is a project based on the culture of the first wave of net art, produced entirely with animated gifs taken from personal collections such as of Jimpunk, Marisa Olson and Superbad. Inspired by the iPad zooming features, here the low tech rhyme with Wi-Fi and mobility, remixing the past and the future of the Internet in an optical black and white delirium. 9. Snow Queen

Snow Queen, a debut videopoem by Machine Libertine, is a combination of masculine poetry «Poison Tree» by William Blake contrasted to mechanic female MacOS voice and Sever group remix of Souzfilm animation «Snow Queen» (1957). The cubist imagery of the Snow Queen's realm evokes parallels with the realm of the digital that is as unstable as the icicles that Key composes the word "eternity" from.
