Propolis Press
Propolis Press was established by Karen Randall in 2001 for the purpose of printing fine letterpress artists books with poetry by innovative, contemporary authors. The philosophy of Propolis Press is that there should be no one-size-fits-all approach to poetic texts. Each text has its own unique dna that should guide the morphogenesis of the book. She is currently working with two 19th century photographic processes: Cyanotype and Gum Bichromate to print images. Previous books have incorporated four-color images printed letterpress on gampi from photopolymer plates. Karen developed this process in order to print her digital collages. She has subsequently taught four-color letterpress printing at the Center for the Book in New York, The San Francisco Center for the Book, and at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts in Minneapolis.
