Also featuring: Kate Pullinger, Steve Gibson, Simon Widdowson2004 saw the third Incubation, the premier international event for writers working on the web providing ideas, information and debate for the new media writing community. There were opportunities to experience recent works and lively discussions about the ways new media texts are made, discussed, and reviewed. We also explored methods of teaching and digital archiving in a creative context. Incubation aims to encourage interdisciplinary creativity and cross-fertilisation, and we were especially interested in introducing the form to writers and artists for whom it is a new idea as well as helping practitioners to share and expand their work.
Themes
The themes for 2004 were:
A. Developing a new form: contemporary textual works in new media and performance
B. The practice of making: creative and professional practice; online teaching and learning.

Фестиваль поэзии на острове | эпизод: Новая Голландия
Очередной эпизод Фестиваля поэзии на острове — при поддержке культурного пространства «Новая Голландия» и на одноименном острове. Предыдущие эпизоды Фестиваля («Цистерны», «Отмель» и «Канал») проходили на протяжении последних трех лет в разных частях Канонерского острова и являлись экспериментами по приданию поэзии публичного измерения. (сайт Транслита) Из кураторского текста: <...> у поэзии, долгое время заточенной в своей дисциплинарной автономии, много общего с судьбой острова, на котором томился то ли лес, приготовленный для строительства кораблей, но так и не пущенный в дело, то ли заключенные морской тюрьмы. Известно, что еще в начале века с острова был пущен и первый радиосигнал, но, похоже, он так и не был никем получен. Только сегодня, в начале XXI века, рукотворный остров петровских времен становится публичным пространством, тогда же когда и поэзия стремится распахнуть свои рукотворные чудеса для широкой интересующейся аудитории — при сохранении характерных для нее сложности и неоднозначности, а также выйти из «тюрьмы языка» — навстречу междисциплинарным практикам видео, инсталляции и перформинга.

Теории и практики медиаискусства - 3
Нерв семинара — внимание к одному из наиболее популярных и перспективных направлений современного искусства, в котором художественная среда соединяется с наукой и разнообразными технологиями — информационными, телекоммуникационными, био-, нано- и прочими. Участники семинара совместно с приглашенными специалистами обсудят потенциал медиа искусства в трансформации наших представлений об окружающей реальности и то, как оно способно пробуждать фантазию и помогает предвосхищать будущее. Семинар будет состоять из двух частей — в первой с докладами на тему современных медиа практик выступят специалисты из различных областей знания: художник и программист Никита Рокотян, ведущий сотрудник Библиотеки им. В.Г.Белинского и арт-критик Марина Соколовская, исследователь и со-оснаватель проекта «Точка ветвления» Александра Болдырева. Вторая часть будет представлять собой круглый стол, посвященный археологии медиа. В течение него все желающие смогут обсудить проблематику и сокрытый потенциал забытых, устаревших и иным образом выведенных из оборота медиа технологий. Art Focus for Technologies: Charm and Challenge
Since the very beginning of art ‘techne’ has been a substantial part of ‘poeisis’. The complex technologies of today create a particularly compelling and provocative frame for expressing artistic ideas. Media/ techno/ hybrid art is currently one of the most promising kinds of art that enriches art with most recent developments in science, robotics, electronics, telecommunication and bio technologies. Interacting with the objects and whole environments, the viewer is empowered to relate to the works in multiple ways and is intuitively immersed into the problematic field of contemporary technological culture. The unique modes of sensory engagement, when visual perception is closely tied with auditory and tactile, suggest new paradigms of cognition and proprioception. While internationally the media arts practice is supported by wide range of industries and governmental institutes, in Russia the development of this field is still sporadic.

A series of five events in 2001-2002 organized by the Electronic Literature Organization and the University of Illinois / Chicago Dept. of Communications and funded by the Illinois Humanities Council and the Chicago Humanities Festival, the series included readings and performances of works of electronic literature followed by discussions with the authors led by humanities scholars. Venues included the University of Illinois at Chicago, the Chicago Cultural Center, and the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art.

About Newspoetry
Newspoetry is an alternative online news source that presents a poem or prose every day responding to current news. The Urbana, Illinois-based writing collective's efforts produce a unique and ongoing form of social history, commentary, satire, and poetry. An ensemble reading will be performed by a group of newspoets including founder William Gillespie, editor-until-chief Joseph Futrelle, singer-songwriter Paul Kotheimer, Nicolle Ruth Neulist, Anne Bargar and others. Following the reading a discussion of the work will be led by Notre Dame University Associate Professor of English Steve Tomasula.

Steve Tomasula's fictions and essays are forthcoming or have appeared most recently in Fiction International, The Iowa Review, New Art Examiner, Kuntsforum, Circa: The Journal of International Visual Culture, Leonardo, American Book Review, The Review of Contemporary Fiction, Emigre and Black Ice. He received his Ph.D. in English from the University of Illinois at Chicago. About Poems that Go
Megan Sapnar and Ingrid Ankerson are the co-editors of Poems That Go, an influential kinetic poetry Web site. Megan Sapnar is completing the M.A. Program in Communications, Culture and Technolog at Georgetown University. Ingrid Ankerson is completing the M.A. Program in Publications Design at the University of Baltimore.
Poems that Go exists to unite words, design, music and motion and to celebrate poetry through technology and the Internet. The Editors write that: "We are interested in exploring a new form of poetry - one that abandons the traditional approach to literature. One which expresses experience, ideas and emotions through motion graphics and animation. One which integrates these art forms to challenge the definition of poetry. One which challenges you, the new writers and artists, to discover extraordinary ways to express emotion."
