    Mapping e-lit: Lectura i anàlisi de la literatura és un Congrés Internacional organitzat pel Grup de Recerca Hermeneia i la Universitat de Barcelona que se celebra a la pròpia Universitat els dies 24 i 25 de novembre de 2011.

    El Congrés vol oferir una immersió en el camp de la literatura electrònica a través de la participació i el diàleg d'especialistes nacionals i internacionals en la matèria, al mateix temps que ofereix l'oportunitat d'establir un contacte dirtecte amb els autors i crítics d'obres digitals i de conèixer la diverses pràctiques de lectura possibles.

    Mapping E-Lit: Reading and Analysis of Digital Literature is an international conference organized by the Hermeneia Research Group and the University of Barcelona, which will take place at the University on November 24-25, 2011. 

    The conference aims to provide an immersion in the field of electronic literature through participation and dialogue with national and international specialists in the field, creating the opportunity to establish direct contact with authors and critics of digital works while getting to know various reading practices.

  3. Collaborations in E-lit

    This essay, a discussion between two esteemed e-poets for whom collaboration is an integral part of their creative practice, appeared in the "The Collaborative Turn" special issue of American Book Review, guest-edited by Davis Schneiderman. In their discussion, Montfort and Strickland survey several common types of e-lit collaboration and provide links to representative examples. Strickland explicitly links the material aesthetics of code poetics to literary theorist Timothy Morton's call for critical thinking that engages the universe's enmeshed interconnectedness, which he dubs "the ecological thought."

  4. Electronic Literature Exhibit at the 2012 MLA Convention

    A special exhibit of electronic literature at the 2012 Modern Langague Association (MLA) Convention, curated by Dene Grigar, Lori Emerson, and Kathi Inman Berens. "Electronic Literature" features over 160 works by artists who create literary works involving various forms and combinations of digital media, such as video, animation, sound, virtual environments, and multimedia installations, for desktop computers, mobile devices, and live performance. The works presented at this exhibit have been carefully selected by the curators because they represent a cross-section of born digital—that is, works created on and meaningfully experience through a computing device—from countries like Brazil, Canada, Australia, Sweden, the UK, the US, and Spain, and highlight literary art produced from the late 1980s to the present. Thus, the exhibit aims to provide humanities scholars with the opportunity to experience, first-hand, this emergent form of literature, one that we see as an important form of expression in, as Jay David Bolter calls it, this "late age of print."

  5. I Love E-Poetry

    This scholarly blog was launched on December 19, 2011 as a constraint to read and critically reflect upon a work of e-poetry every day, leading me to revisit known works, discover new ones, and expand my knowledge of this emergent poetic genre. Its initial performance was a continuous run of 500 daily entries, completed on May 2, 2013.

  6. Фестиваль поэзии на острове | эпизод: Новая Голландия

    Очередной эпизод Фестиваля поэзии на острове — при поддержке культурного пространства «Новая Голландия» и на одноименном острове. Предыдущие эпизоды Фестиваля («Цистерны», «Отмель» и «Канал») проходили на протяжении последних трех лет в разных частях Канонерского острова и являлись экспериментами по приданию поэзии публичного измерения. (сайт Транслита) Из кураторского текста: <...> у поэзии, долгое время заточенной в своей дисциплинарной автономии, много общего с судьбой острова, на котором томился то ли лес, приготовленный для строительства кораблей, но так и не пущенный в дело, то ли заключенные морской тюрьмы. Известно, что еще в начале века с острова был пущен и первый радиосигнал, но, похоже, он так и не был никем получен. Только сегодня, в начале XXI века, рукотворный остров петровских времен становится публичным пространством, тогда же когда и поэзия стремится распахнуть свои рукотворные чудеса для широкой интересующейся аудитории — при сохранении характерных для нее сложности и неоднозначности, а также выйти из «тюрьмы языка» — навстречу междисциплинарным практикам видео, инсталляции и перформинга.

  7. Cyberfest

    CYBERFEST is the first and only Russian International festival for cybernetic art (which combines living, biological and somatic substances with computational and technical), held annually since 2007.

    This year the festival is attended by more than 80 artists and art professionals from 20 countries (Russia, France, Belgium, Canada, Italy, Germany, Austria, the USA, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Finland, Sweden, Lithuania, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine , Philippines, etc.), and the program includes:

    — an exhibition (of media objects and media installations);
    — live performances;
    — sound and video art programs;
    — an educational program (with lectures, workshops, master classes);
    — an Internet conference;
    — a concert.

  8. Making Sense: aspects of the literary in electronic environments

    This paper investigates the manner in which e-literature is reconstructing and intensifying some of the sensory capacities of literary language. The interactive nature of many works, as well as their use of image and sound and the fact that the ‘surface’ text is produced and informed by a ‘deeper’ level of generative code, means that new critical concepts, vocabularies and ways of reading adequate to this new situation need to be developed. Katherine Hayles. John Cayley, Talan Memmot, and Rita Raley, have all written authoritatively on the importance of software and code in determining approaches to electronic poetics, and the difference this makes to how we understand new media writing. Matt Kirschenbaum makes the distinction between formal and forensic materiality in order to break down the emergent logics at play in the digital ‘text’. We introduce a different perspective, one that focuses on the ecology of the body (its distribution) in its engagement with different forms.

  9. Litteraturen i en multimediatid, med eksempler fra nordisk elektronisk litteratur

    Den papirbaserte boka har beveget seg inn i en tid hvor ungdommen påvirkes i en multimedia-verden. Tradisjonell lineær fortelling, der en definert forfatter lager et ferdig produkt, tilbys alternative muligheter.
    Web'en utvikler seg fra å være skriftbasert til større bruk av bilder og lyd, og nye arbeider kan gi leseren mulighet til å delta i utviklingen av fortellingene. Denne utviklingen trenger vi ikke se som en kamp mellom to alternative løsninger.

    Den elektroniske litteraturen sier noe om samtiden som samtidslitteraturen ikke kan på samme måte, den kan øve leseren opp til det nye århundrets komplekse medie- og tekstunivers.

  10. Mobile Tagging as Tools to create Mixed Reality in eLit

    The objective of this paper is to describe the potentialities of Mobile Tagging as a tool for increasing and spreading the effects of Mixed Realities in Electronic Literature. In this sense, we will start introducing the main concepts and some examples of Mixed Realities followed by the concepts and examples of Mobile Tagging, showing that they are connected and benefit each other and can benefit eLit as well. Mixed Reality (or MR) refers to the fusion of the physical and virtual worlds to produce new environments and visualizations where physical and digital objects co-­‐exist and interact in real time. On the other hand, mobile tagging is the process of reading a 2D barcode using a mobile device camera. Allowing the encryption of URLs in the barcodes, the mobile tagging can add a digital and/or online layer to any physical object, providing so several levels of mixed realities related to that object. Although Mixed Realities technologies have already existed for decades, in the past they were very expensive. Recently, mobile devices have also become tools for mixed realities.
