    "_the data][h!][bleeding t.ex][e][ts" are remnants from email performances devoted to the dispersal of writing that has been inspired and mutated according to the dynamics of an active network. The texts make use of the polysemic language system termed mezangelle, which evolved/s from multifarious email exchanges, computer code flavored language, and net iconographs.

  4. Entre

    Entre (‘Enter’) (2001), a CD-ROM created by Brazilian artists Rafael Lain and Angela Detanico, that makes us think that it is possible to dare a non-phonetic thinking as a matrix of new cultural practices. The CD’s title, Entre, comprises some of its features. “Entre” in Portuguese means, as an imperative verb, “enter” and as an adverb it means “between,” and this double meaning transforms the title into an invitation and into a challenge: an invitation because it invites us to think of nothing but exploring its universe; a challenge because it constantly makes us hesitate in trying to define it, since it is a project that stays between writing and speech, between music and drawing, between letter and digit. Without explanations, it gives the reader two possibilities: to touch images, drawing with sounds, randomly using the computer keyboard; or installing a series of fonts created by Rafael Lain.

  5. The Minotaur Project

    The Minotaur Project is a cluster of four poems fused with image, movement and sound. It is part of a hypermedia novel in verse that explores contemporary issues of identity using the framework of classical myth. Minotaur appears as a fragmented persona confined in the computer’s labyrinth. It attempts to understand self and others (specifically Kore, the main character in this verse novel) without that primary means of connection to the sensate world, the body.

  8. Nepabunna

    Nepabunna uses remote sensing data from the Landsat 5 satellite as the starting point, then progresses to a mythopoeia of contemporary technology (using Australian Aboriginal themes) and finally cites string theory as an example of the nexus between science/beauty/truth. Poetry and digital media combine to examine this nexus.

    Translucidity is essentially an appendix to Lexia to Perplexia. Though both pieces deal with network phenomenology, where Lexia to Perplexia primarily deals with network attachment, Translucidity deals with issues of faciality.

  10. Another Kind of Language

    Interactive piece made in Adobe Flash, it consists of three different layers: the user can travel from one surface to another by clicking on the buttons: A (for Arabic), C (for Chinese) and E (for English). When choosing the languages, I was interested in the differences of their visual element, reading patterns (right to left, left to right, top to bottom) and linear and non-linear qualities. Notions analysed in Visual and avant-garde poetics. Each surface is blank until the user rolls the mouse over it, revealing still and moving images, which appear and fade away, and triggering phonetic sounds from each respective language.

    The images are related to the visual representation and cultural background of each language. The sound layers are formed by the 'meaningless' phonetic sounds of the three different languages. They were created by speakers of these languages, who sang and pronounced combinations of phonetic sounds commonly used in each linguistic system.
