  3. News Wheel

News Wheel, 2016 is an iOS app that explores the poetics of ever changing news headlines. It begins as a static disk divided into nine sections each representing a different news source. Tapping anywhere on the screen causes the wheel to spin. Another tap stops the wheel and suddenly a headline in one of nine pre-selected colors appears on the screen. This playful interface invites users to start and stop the wheel eventually filling the screen with a collage of current headlines. Individual words can be deleted and repositioned so users can create their own poems from this content. In addition, dragging one's finger across the screen creates an animated chain of fragmented and poetic text derived from today's headline news. News Wheel is a creative and poetic way to view, juxtapose and interpret world events. (Source: http://www.jodyzellen.com/newswheeltalk/)

Alan Bigelow's "The Shootout" is a wonderfully fun and interactive western tale with poetic language, immersive sound, and a surprisingly modern ending that you won't see coming. It seems, no matter where technology goes, we cannot help but love stories and puzzles. We just find new packages for them.

  10. How to Rob a Bank

How To Rob A Bank is a young Bonnie and Clyde-esque love story about the mishaps that befall a young male bank robber and his female accomplice. This transmedia fiction manifests in the form of animated text conversations between the main characters, and their use of their iPhones to Google search, text, game, and use other apps on the phone as part of their capers.

The story is an immersive experience generated through readers’ hands-on use of apps, maps, imagery, animations and audio. Bigelow’s award winning 2016 multimodal work foregrounds how social technology has become a core element of daily life, and helps us see the way that social technologies structure lived experience.

The mirror effect of the character/reader’s use of personal devices as they read this piece makes this narrative relatable, shining light on widespread digital traversing behaviors. And yet, the storytelling is also traditional in its linear development with five sequential episodes.
