  1. 88 Constellations for Wittgenstein (to be Played with the Left Hand)

Author description: 88 Constellations for Wittgenstein (to be played with the Left Hand) is an interactive, non-linear net.art piece that explores the life and philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein through a series of animated vignettes created in Flash. Each of the 88 sections corresponds to one of the 88 constellations in the night sky. Each constellation becomes a navigation device for the viewer to negotiate the associative relationships between these vignettes. As well, viewers can interact with each collaged animation using their left hand to trigger events from the computer keyboard (in homage to Ludwig Wittgenstein's brother Paul (a concert pianist who lost his right arm in WWI but continued his career performing piano works composed for the Left Hand). This work considers questions that Ludwig Wittgenstein pondered in his career as a philosopher: logic, language, the nature of thinking, and the limits of knowledge -- all in relation to our contemporary digital world.

  2. The Inframergence

The outer interface of this work is a spiral of buttons, each of which leads to an interactive screen. Beginning at the outside, the screens consist of overlaid polylinear skeins. Each skein has an “obverse,” which goes in the opposite direction. As the reader proceeds through the spiral to the center, nonlinearity emerges. The skeins become more concentrated and are then replaced by clusters; the clusters then clump together into structures, in which some elements are dominant over others; and eventually a full diagrammatic syntax appears, in which any element can be connected to any other using the full complexity available to networks.

  3. Blueberries

Blueberries is a piece that I wrote shortly have spending over three months writing a new short story in hypertext every day. The form is one that I find so suitable to the open flow of narrative not only for the writer in the creative process but for the reader in choosing the paths that open up throughout the story. Blueberries is more than just the story of an artist putting together a show, as it brings the past confronting the present in her preparation and the hypertext form allows that interplay with time.

  4. Um estudio em vermelho

Marcel Spalding's Um Estudo em Vermelho (in English, A Study in Scarlet) is a detective story with eight possible endings, which are defined by the reader's choices in three decisive moments. The technique used is the combinatorial analysis in order to make the endings have straight relation with the path chosen by the reader along the reading.

  5. One or More Disfigurements in the Home

One or More Disfigurements in the Home is a hypertextual fiction involving the memory and disfigurement of a narrator within the home. The text comes from an excerpt of an original work of fiction. Because sections of text are chosen quasi-randomly, you will not experience the entire source text in one sitting.

Click and drag horizontally or vertically to scroll, and, after some time has passed, clickable grey links will appear. There is something similar to an ending; a full(ish) reading will take at least 10 minutes. If you see it moving itself, it is simply waiting for you to start interacting.

  6. Si son sólo libros

Si sólo son libros by Marla Jacarilla, 2009, is a simple hypertext in which the author links 48 books by means of a screen that evokes an image, an illustration or a collage. A paragraph selected from the book completes the presentation. The list of volumes is dynamic and it moves around the screen and therefore, after a while, the access to a particular book is lost (Félix Rémirez, translated into English by Maya Zalbidea).

  7. Golpe de Gracia

Golpe de gracia is an interactive multimedia piece that combines text, illustration, audio, modeling, and animation and tells the story of a character who undergoes a "near death" experience; this particular situation also functions as a metaphor for the cultural transitions of the present moment. The text is comprised of three "narrative worlds": Cadáver exquisito, L'nea mortal and Muerte digital (Exquisite Corpse, Mortal Line, and Digital Death, respectively) and four "deepening rooms" (games, reading texts, study, and construction). The work offers several different degrees of interaction that range from taking decisions in order to follow the routes, all the way up to the collective construction of the text, along the way participating in several interactive games. Golpe de gracia also has an educative and communicative purpose, which is to make us aware of, and to contribute to, the development of collective knowledge.
