    Beneath Floes is a short work of interactive fiction written by Kevin Snow, the creator of Bravemule, with artwork from Patrick Bonaduce and sound from Priscilla White.

    Qikiqtaaluk, 1962. The sun falls below the horizon and won't return for months. You wander the broken shoreline, wary of your mother's stories about the qalupalik. Fish woman, stealer of wayward children: she dwells beneath the ice.

  2. A Nervous System

    This is an interactive poem-fiction hybrid exploring unexplored taxonomies through a touch focused 3-D depth experimental interface. To understand, to translate the world, the objects and creatures and geographies around us, into meaningful (meaningless?) symbols, shareable concepts, we developed language. Then to further understand the differences and similarities of everything around us, to narrow down and dissect function and association, we created labels, categories and systems of taxonomy. And while these developed taxonomies and hierarchies are useful to organizing and departmentalizing our complex land/city/culture/art/literary-scapes, they can also hinder new possibilities and understandings. What if defining the function of the lung or leaves limits alternative and possibly powerful uses, keeps us from exploring what some might call “fringe” science? A Nervous System explores these alternative understandings of biological organisms, systems and organs.

    Kuryokhin: Second Life is a (meta)simulator of Sergey Kuryokhin’s afterlife, an IF loosely based on the bio of the avantgarde composer and the legendary leader of Leningrad’s cultural life in the 1980s and early 1990s. (Meta)simulator allows you to earn scores in health, knowledge and madness, while giving you opportunities to rethink the paths of the post-Soviet culture and politics. At a certain point one discovers that the unfolding story is just an attempt of media-archaeologists from the far future to reconstruct the lost simulator of Kuryokhin (therefrom the concept of metasimulation).   4. The End of the White Subway

    Concept "The End of the White Subway" is a strange little text-game that bears some resemblance to a text adventure or interactive fiction... more or less the way a toadstool resembles a geranium. Is this a game? If being a game requires consequential decisions, controllable actions, differential outcomes, and quantification (score), then it's a game. If your definition includes fun, well... This project is really more like a time simulator -- though in some ways every game is that. It invites you to think about the passing of time (all those moments you'll never get back), the way things change even as they stay the same, what you think you are doing when you can't do much of anything, and how you know when it's time to leave the train. What You Can Do Ride the train from station to station: either click Continue or simply press any key while you are in Train mode. (You'll need to click once in the text window, or use the Continue link initially, in order to set focus.) Each station of your passage comprises a screenful of text. The text is always different, or perhaps always the same. Look at things: The Earth is full of them.

  6. The Bafflement Fires

    The Bafflement Fires is an interaction fiction/poem in the form of a digital recreation of a Freemason board game from the 1950s. Based on found documents, this game seems an attempt to alter player perceptions through quiz and play. Also attempt at building a part fiction, part creative non-fiction world, told through the surreal and literary answers/questions of someone trying to influence how we perceived the world around/inside us, playable on a screen attempting to create its own pixeled reality.

  7. The Required Field

    The Required Field is an expansive interactive digital poem exploring the impact of policy documents, bureaucratic forms and the river of applications on our lives and our daily culture. Using twenty found and remixed government and corporate documents, the work poetically translates those overly complex and confusing forms. 

    For example, a Tax Form for farmers will be recontextualized through an interactive image-­‐map tour, transforming specific sections of the forms into poetic text and animated elements. Or a page from a Work Visa application will be created into a platform game, where the reader/player triggers poetry blasting bureaucracies through their game play. 

    And in the end, The Required Field, builds from and then poetically destroys the bureaucratic cultures and their fields of red-­‐tape, laws and policies for the sake of policies, the sub-­‐section to a sub-­‐section, part B stroke 9 for breathing.

  9. Hilda Bewildered

    Thank you for your interest in this app. Ironically, this page gets more interest now that Hilda Bewildered is unavailable!

    Hilda Bewildered was released 30 January 2015. Apple removes from sale apps which have not been regularly updated, regardless of whether they continue to work or not. In order to update Hilda we need the latest XCode, which requires a newer Mac. When we buy a new Mac, we’ll update XCode and resubmit Hilda Bewildered to the App Store. But we recently updated our PCs, so… we don’t actually need new Macs right now, apart from this one annoying thing.
