  3. Machine Libertine

Machine Libertine is media poetry group. The method of our work is the exploration of the role of media in the development of literary art practices including video poetry, text generators and performance art. The main principles of the group are formulated in our Machine Poetry Manifesto pointing out the idea of liberation of the machines from the routine tasks and increasing the intensity of their use for creative and educational practices. Machine Libertine had been founded in December 2010 starting with a video poetry called Snow Queen, a piece for British Council and presented recently at Purple Blurb series at MIT and Harvard. It is a combination of masculine poetry «Poison Tree» by William Blake contrasted to mechanic female MacOS voice and cubistic video imagery of Souzfilm animation «Snow Queen» (1957). We are exploring how the text can be transformed by mechanized reading and visualizing it and what are the possible limits of this transmedia play of interpretation.

Speculation is an alternate reality game that explores the culture of Wall Street investment banks in the context of the 2008 global economic crisis. From cryptographic puzzles and online simulations to live performances and geocaching, Speculation incorporates a wide range of media to build a transmedia world in which the logic of capital has accelerated beyond control. 5. Speculation: An Alternate Reality Game

Speculation is a science fiction game directed by Katherine Hayles, Patrick Jagoda, and Patrick LeMieux that explores the greed-driven culture of Wall Street investment banks and the 2008 global economic collapse. Speculation belongs to the genre of Alternate Reality Games (ARGs). ARGs are not bound by any single medium or hardware system. Instead, these games use the real world as their primary platform. ARGs incorporate a range of media, including text, video, audio, phone calls, email, social networks, original software, and even live performance. Their stories tend to be broken into discrete pieces that players actively rediscover, reconfigure, and influence through their actions. Player networks created around ARGs are inherently social and tend to include collective problem-solving and participatory storytelling.

  7. Transmedia Practice: Theorising the Practice of Expressing a Fictional World across Distinct Media and Environments

In the past few years there have been a number of theories emerge in media, film, television, narrative and game studies that detail the rise of what has been variously described as transmedia, cross-media and distributed phenomena. Fundamentally, the phenomenon involves the employment of multiple media platforms for expressing a fictional world. To date, theorists have focused on this phenomenon in mass entertainment, independent arts or gaming; and so, consequently the global, transartistic and transhistorical nature of the phenomenon has remained somewhat unrecognised. Theorists have also predominantly defined it according to end-point characteristicssuch as the "expansion" trait (a story continues across media). This has resulted in the phenomenon being obscured amongst similar phenomena. Therefore, rather than investigate the phenomenon as it occurs in isolated artistic sectors and with an end-point characteristic, this thesis investigates all of these emergences through the lens of transmedia practice.
