1. Generative Poems

   This work is part of an ongoing series of interactive, experimental and generative poetic texts using Processing to generate visual compositions which fill the viewable space in time, with a growing pattern triggered by sound and silence.These particular poems developed with Szekely were inspired by Hansjorg Mayer’s alphabetenquadratbuch poem (alphabetsquarebook). In all the experiments, three communication systems are coming together: image, writing and code.

   It is my aim to stretch the possibilities of programming to produce generative texts activated by sound and rooted in the tradition of concrete poetry, its formal representation, production processes and progression with technological advances. As a research project, the work will have a valuable input in provoking discourses and bringing knowledge and understanding into the different explored disciplines.

2. Without a Trace

   In July 2007 I began saving the daily image from the online version of the comic strip "Real Life Adventures" removing the text from its panels, so all that was left were the empty thought bubbles. I think of this collection as "Empty Thoughts from Real Life." My reason for doing this was to create an archive of generic comic strip images stripped of their original text so that later both the text and its container could be used for other content. 

   In addition to altering the comic, one of my other ongoing daily rituals has been to make hand-drawn tracings from the newspaper. In these drawings I bring elements from different pages of the paper together. I often trace what appears on the front and backsides of a single page by holding it up to a window and drawing over selected images and texts. My hand drawings are quirky and purposely imprecise. They become a distilled interpretation of the news.

3. Contemplating Flight

   Framed by various folktales, "Contemplating Flight" explores established female representations and further tests the limitations of participation in a challenging narrative grammatology.

   Artist Statement:
   Like previous artworks on 6amhoover.com "Contemplating Flight" explores the interplay between digital narrative, image and interaction. It aims to question the paradigm of interaction equating to empowerment.

   Bettelheim like many ponders the importance of the forest "Since ancient times the near impenetrable forest in which we get lost has symbolized the dark, hidden, near-impenetrable world of our unconscious. If we have lost the framework which gave structure to our past life and must now find our way to become ourselves, and have entered this wilderness with an as yet undeveloped personality, when we succeed in finding our way out we shall emerge with a much more highly developed humanity." 4. Velvet

   "Velvet" is an interactive artwork involving sound and image that is highly personal in nature and which immerses a user inside the mind and identity of the artist for the exploration of states of mind, dreams, and memory.
