Between Page and Screen
Coupling the physicality of the printed page with the electric liquidity of the computer screen, Between Page and Screen chronicles a love affair between the characters P and S while taking the reader into a wondrous, augmented reality. The book has no words, only inscrutable black and white geometric patterns that—when seen by a computer webcam—conjure the written word. Reflected on screen, the reader sees himself with open book in hand, language springing alive and shape-shifting with each turn of the page. The story unfolds through a playful and cryptic exchange of letters between P and S as they struggle to define their turbulent relationship. Rich with innuendo, anagrams, etymological and sonic affinities between words, Between Page and Screen takes an almost ecstatic pleasure in language and the act of reading. Merging concrete poetry with conceptual art, “technotext” with epistolary romance, and the tradition of the artist’s book with the digital future, Between Page and Screen expands the possibilities of what a book can be.

Textual Skyline explores these notions through a net-based interactive, generative and multidimensional flash engine/interface using RSS news feeds to create a digital poetry city.

A crissxross trail < R3/\/\1X\/\/0RX: one remix player's scenic route through remixworx
A crissxross trail < R3/\/\1X\/\/0RX is a meta-remix of the artist's personal creative journey through remixworx, a collaborative online remixing project. Conceived as a poetic interactive infographic with lots of multimedia animated content, this 'scenic route' presents a sample trail of 33 out of the 100 remixes that Christine Wilks (aka crissxross) has created since joining remixworx in January 2007. The trail includes a text commentary about her experience of remixing and co-creating over the past six years. A crissxross trail < R3/\/\1X\/\/0RX: one remix player's scenic route through remixworx formed the core of Christine Wilks's presentation for the ELMCIP Conference on Remediating the Social in November 2012.

I Love You
This poem is structured as a cloud consisting of language and sail-shaped figures. This complex set of objects contain the sentence “I love you,” “my love,” and “I will love you forever” in several languages, colors, and positions and responds with rotation along different axes depending upon the position of the pointer on the screen. The spherical shape of the rotation along with the translations of the sentence gesture towards its universality. If this were to be dedicated to someone, it delivers a message of a love that will express itself no matter where the pointer— the symbolic presence of the reader in the text— is moved to.

Uncontrollable Semantics
This minimalist poem hovers right on the edge of being an art piece, because each of its 50 environments offers a different mouse-driven (aimed?) interface and music. The four words positioned on the screen’s cardinal points create a space amid them that is both conceptual and a canvas. What is the relation between words positioned in opposite spaces? How do they relate to the title to each section? How do the sound and animation relate to the words and title? Clicking on the words lead to another node in this wondrously strange hypertext… This intriguing art poem is highly entertaining, as long as you can abandon thoughts of meaning and simply enjoy playing with the piece.

Family of silence
"Family of silence" is the portrait of a Cambodian family, a couple and their daughter, exiled in France before the Civil War and the takeover of the Khmer Rouge the country in 1975. This film is a portrait of the daily life of this family of memory which emerges the deaf the buried memory of the war, exile, the painful feeling of being surviving when other members of the family disappeared.

There Are Many Detours Between Information And Instruction
This poem may seem like a simple slideshow that combines text and images but it is built with born-digital materials that have little to do with print culture. The background images are taken from sprites—graphical objects that form part of a program visual design and contain programmed behaviors. Both in its choice of sprites and fonts, the work favors an 8 and 16 bit videogame aesthetic, evidenced by its pixellation and bold fonts. And even though by turning these materials into images, their programmed behaviors are stripped, they retain cultural impact, particularly for those familiar with their provenance. One doesn’t have to be videogame aficionado to appreciate their aesthetics, since a few decades of exposure to these videogame graphics has caused some cultural burn-in, to the point that they’ve become part of our visual and computational vocabulary.
