2. Brown University, Department of Literary Arts

   For over 40 years, the Brown University Program in Literary Arts has been a creative and intellectual center for the U.S. literary avant-garde. Along with only a handful of other writing programs nationwide, Brown’s Program in Literary Arts provides a home for innovative writers of fiction, poetry, electronic writing (hypertext) and mixed media.

   Established in the mid-1960s by poet, translator and critic Edwin Honig, the Program in Literary Arts continues its tradition of hiring and retaining a faculty comprised of nationally and internationally known authors. Each year, the program offers 60 – 70 classes, awards the M.F.A. degree to approximately 12 graduate student writers, and confers Honors or Capstone certificates on about 35 talented undergraduate writers. In spring, 2005, the Program also established, for the first time, an undergraduate concentration in Literary Arts.

3. University of Bergen, Electronic Literature Research Group

   The Electronic Literature Research Group at the University of Bergen's (UiB) Department of Linguistic, Literary, and Aesthetic Studies formed in 2011 and is focused specifically on e-lit, digital art, and other research related to digital-media aesthetics. We collaborate with (and originated in) the Digital Culture Research Group. We hope that this group will extend beyond our colleagues in the program at UiB and include researchers and writers interested in these topics from elsewhere, other UiB departments, at other institutions in Bergen (and the world).

   As a learning and production collective, Factory School organizes a range of activities in the areas of publishing, broadcast, media display, policy research, community service, and skills exchange. Factory School projects assume one of several forms, including: books and book series; online handbooks, textbooks, and readers; streaming audio and video; research coalitions and think-tanks; online galleries and performance archives; online bulletin boards and discussion lists; community agencies or institutions; and public events such as readings, performances, retreats, and conferences.
