ELMCIP Conference on Remediating the Social
The Electronic Literature as a Model of Creativity and Innovation in Practice (ELMCIP) research project invited scholars, artists, researchers and performers to its final conference and exhibition. The event, running from Nov. 1-3, 2012, was hosted by Edinburgh College of Art in collaboration with New Media Scotland and University College Falmouth within the framework of the ELMCIP research project. The event was held at Inspace, a purpose-built research and exhibition facility at the University of Edinburgh, fully instrumented to facilitate engagement with developments in new technologies, scientific research and creative practice.

Electronic Literature Exhibit at the 2012 MLA Convention
A special exhibit of electronic literature at the 2012 Modern Langague Association (MLA) Convention, curated by Dene Grigar, Lori Emerson, and Kathi Inman Berens. "Electronic Literature" features over 160 works by artists who create literary works involving various forms and combinations of digital media, such as video, animation, sound, virtual environments, and multimedia installations, for desktop computers, mobile devices, and live performance. The works presented at this exhibit have been carefully selected by the curators because they represent a cross-section of born digital—that is, works created on and meaningfully experience through a computing device—from countries like Brazil, Canada, Australia, Sweden, the UK, the US, and Spain, and highlight literary art produced from the late 1980s to the present. Thus, the exhibit aims to provide humanities scholars with the opportunity to experience, first-hand, this emergent form of literature, one that we see as an important form of expression in, as Jay David Bolter calls it, this "late age of print."

The Accidental Artist
The Accidental Artist was an ongoing exhibition in Second Life at Odyssey, June 2008 - January 2009, by Alan Sondheim, with help from Sugar Seville, Azure Carter, Gary Nanes, Sandy Baldwin, and Frances van Scoy at the Virtual Environments Laboratory, West Virginia University, Morgantown, West Virginia. The show changed daily and the gave me an opportunity to study the phenomenology of a virtual world in relation to avatar-human objectivity. The following texts were written during the generation of the show.

Electronic Literature Organization 2012 Media Art Show: Electrifying Literature: Affordances and Constraints
“Electrifying Literature: Affordances and Constraints” is the Electronic Literature Organization’s 2012 Media Art Show that takes place in conjunction with the ELO’s conference held in Morgantown, WV, from 20-23 June 2012. Curated by Dene Grigar & Sandy Baldwin, it is comprised of five venues across the city: The Monongalia Arts Center (MAC), the Arts Monongahela Gallery, West Virginia Univeristy (WVU), Downtown Library, the Art Museum of WVU, & the Hazel Ruby McQuain Amphitheater & features the art of 55 artists from nine countries; a retrospective of artists Alan Bigelow, J. R. Carpenter, M.D. Coverley, Judy Malloy, and Jason Nelson; a special commissioned geo-locative work by Jeremy Hight; artist talks; and performances.

Digitale Kunst in der Bibliothek - Digital Art in the Library
Das Ende des Gutenbergzeitalters ist längst ausgerufen und Medienhistoriker konstatieren eine Entwicklung von Medien des Sinns (Schrift, Buch) zu Medien der Sinne (Fotografie, Film). Der Computer erschien in seiner textbasierten Anfangszeit als Revanche des Wortes am Fernsehen. Inzwischen gibt es Fernsehen auch im Internet. Schlechte Zeiten für den Text? Die neuen Medien führen auch zu neuen Formen der Textnutzung: interaktiv, effektvoll, dekorativ, oft eher darauf aus, mit dem Text zu spielen als ihn zu lesen. Die Ausstellungsreihe "Digitale Kunst in der Bibliothek" zeigt einige davon, beginnend mit "Overboard", einem Beispiel für animierte konkrete Poesie.

PW12 Performance Writing Weekend
The weekend comprises performances, readings, a workshop on Writing & Mapping, ‘events on the plinth', an exhibition and discussions about multi- and inter-medial writing. We will be considering how, as the printed book comes under threat, new writing will be made, displayed and talked about. See attached PDF full details.

SMServices - Text on Demand
Das erste SMS Literatur-Projekt in der Geschichte der Mobilfunk-Kommunikation. Mit: Ulrich Bauer-Staeb, Karl Bruckmaier, Ulrike Draesner, Markus Epha, Costas Gianacacos, Florian Hammerl, Katja Huber, Gisela Müller, Andreas Neumeister, Fabienne Pakleppa, Thomas Palzer, Nancy du Plessis, Carl-Ludwig Reichert, Zé do Rock, Valeri Scherstjanoi, Franz-Maria Sonner. Künstlerische Leitung: Horst Konietzny, Gisela Müller Erstmals in der Geschichte der Mobilfunk-Kommunikation wurde mit "SMServices" das literarische Potential des ShortMessage-Formats erkundet. Vier Wochen lang ließen sich im Juni 2000 eine Anzahl deutschsprachiger Autorinnen und Autoren auf die unmittelbare Rückkopplung mit ihren Lesern ein. Zu bestimmten Zeiten schickten sie auf Anforderung Textbotschaften im SMS-Format. Die Texte konnten 'worldwide' und im Rahmen einer Ausstellung gelesen werden. Aus einem Geflecht von Short Messages enstand ein literarisches Bezugssystem zwischen Schreibenden und Lesenden. Die von den AutorInnen abgesendeten Zeilen konnten unmittelbar in der Rathausgalerie per Videopreojektion gelesen werden.

kig forbi
Installationen Kig forbi tog udgangspunkt i Norske Hus ved Sophienholm, som i forrige århundrede var et litterært mødested for romantiske digtere som Baggesen, Oehlenschläger, Heiberg og Ingemann. 1996-99 var nøglen i forfatteren og Afsnit P-initiativtageren Christian Yde Frostholms varetægt. Med Kig forbi besvarer han kunstværket og tildelingen af nøglen ved i samarbejde med fotografen Frank Sebastian Hansen at udstille en række portrætter af forbipasserende nysgerrige, taget ud gennem vinduerne i “digterens ensomme bolig”. På internettet ledsages billederne fra installationen bl.a. af tekster af forfatterne Pia Juul og Jeppe Brixvold. Alle interesserede blev indbudt til at kigge forbi på åbningsdagen og overskride tærsklen til det ellers aflukkede hus.
