    exquisite_code is an algorithmic performance system for heterogeneous groups of writers. The writers generate prompts and responses for var1 minute session at the end of which computational devices select/mangle text according to var2 edit. Mangled text outputs get displayed to writers who, in unrelenting sessions, generate further prompts and responses, with chunk on chunk piled up to create a c[ad]aver[n]ous exquisite_code life-work.

  3. Searchsonata 181

    Die SearchSonata 181 ist der letzte Teil der SEARCH TRILOGIE (search lutz!, 2006 - searchSongs, 2008 - searchSonata 181, 2011), die algorithmisch generierte Texte aufführt. Konstante dieser Trilogie ist die Verwendung von Worten, die gerade in Suchmaschinen wie Google & Co. eingegeben werden. Diese Suchworte werden algorithmisch verarbeitet. 
    Im ersten Teil, bei searchLutz!, zu Texten, im zweiten, bei searchSongs, zu Tönen und im letzten, der searchSonata 181, zu Lauten, die ja die akustische Brücke bilden zwischen Text und Ton. Das Webinterface der searchSonata 181 ist nur Mittel zum Zweck. Das Eigentliche entsteht, wenn die algorithmisch generierten Texte live durch eine Sprecherin performt werden. Die Botschaft muss durch den Algorithmus hindurch, ohne dort hängen zu bleiben.

  4. Natural History

    An interactive animation (depicting a map of islands and a stretch of the sea) is screened on top of a model of an archipelago. The numbers on the map that signifies the waters' depth are clickable, for each number a short poetic text emerges. When clicking one of the islands, the screening goes dark and the selected island is lit with a green light. A longer text-animation is played. The texts are like notes from a distant future, with elements of slow violence, something lurking beneath the surface. The spectator chooses beginning and endpoint in the viewing - depending on how much time you give the piece the underlying storyline becomes clearer. It is nearly impossible to experience the work identically two times, to follow the same sequence of numbers.

  8. Search Trilogy

    The SEARCH TRILOGY (search lutz!, 2006 - searchSongs, 2008 - searchSonata 181 , 2011) performes algorithmically generated texts. The consistency of this trilogy is the usage of words that are typed in real time into searchengines like Google & Co. These search terms are processed by algorithm for further use. In the first piece of work, searchLutz (2006), the search terms are processed into texts, in the second piece, searchSongs (2008), into sounds and melody, and in the latest piece, searchSonata 181, into phonetics as an acoustic bridge between text and sound. The web interfaces of search Lutz!, searchSongs and searchSonata 181 are a means to an end. The essence emerges with a live performance of the algorithmically generated texts. The texts are played back into real space: the message has to pass through the algorithm without getting caught there.

  9. Baby Work

    BABY WORK is the 3rd edition of Cheang's LOCKER BABY PROJECT which consist of:
    BABY PLAY (2001, NTT[ICC], Tokyo) and BABY LOVE (2005, Palais de Tokyo, Paris).
    The Locker Baby project conceived in 2001 reflects a time when bioscience is accused
    of out of control and scifi fantasia brings forward the future. Deriving from Ryu
    Murakami's noted novel Coin Locker Babies (1980) of post-war Japan , the Locker Baby
    Project further contests the mother’s heart beats that are so desired for clone babies
    born out of lockers. A fictional scenario set in 2030 - the transnational DPT (DollyPolly
    Transgency) produces and engages clone locker babies in negotiating human "Memory"
    and "Emotion”. The clone baby holds the key to retrieve the networked inter-sphere of
    ME-data embedded in a playfield of sonic imagery triggered only by human interaction.
    In BABY PLAY, an oversized baby football field with clone baby players; in BABY LOVE, a
    ride in 6 motorized fairground teacups with love song remixed by clone babies; in BABY

    What is transmedia narrative and what value does it have for contemporary remix artists? The traditional art and entertainment industries would have us believe that transmedia is a powerful marketing concept that uses new media technologies to aggregate fragmented audiences by delivering story information across multiple media platforms. But what about the fragmented stories being told by amateur-auteurs whose online personae remix their personal mythologies? These alternative transmedia narratives resist convergence yet also circulate in the networked space of flows. New media artists, many of whom identify with the historical avant-garde, can now expand the forms of transmedia narrative to foreground an anti-disciplinary [anti-authoritarian and interdisciplinary] approach to both contemporary practice and theory.
