Short biography: 

Dr. Angus Forbes is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at University of Illinois at Chicago, where he directs the Creative Coding Research Group within the Electronic Visualization Laboratory. His research investigates novel techniques for visualizing and interacting with complex scientific information; his interactive artwork has been featured at museums, galleries, and festivals throughout the world. More information about his research and artwork can be found at Angus is chairing the IEEE VIS Arts Program (VISAP’15), to be held in Chicago in October 2015, a forum that promotes dialogue about the relation of aesthetics and design to visualization research.

Prior to joining the Computer Science faculty at University of Illinois at Chicago, Angus was an assistant professor in the School of Information: Science, Technology, and Arts at University of Arizona. He completed his graduate work in the Media Arts & Technology Program and the Department of Computer Science at UC Santa Barbara. While at UC Santa Barbara, Angus was affiliated with the Experimental Visualization Lab, led by Professor George Legrady, and was a researcher both in the Imaging, Interaction, and Innovative Interfaces Lab, led by Dr. Tobias Hollerer and Dr. Matthew Turk, and the AlloSphere Research Facility, led by Dr. JoAnn Kuchera-Morin.
