  1. Sintext-W

'Sintext-W' (1999-2000) is a Java version for the Web of the text generator 'Sintext,' (1993) with the collaboration by José Manuel Torres. According to the Web Java demo, 'Sintext-W' can be understood as: In this space the cybernaut can have a first contact with the automatic text generator 'Sintext-W' (Text Synthesizer). The user can visualize the automatic generation of 3 generative texts available here: · 'Didáctica' (example) · 'Balada de Portugal' (extract) · 'Teoria do Homem Sentado' (fragment) For this purpose it is enough that the user clicks on the buttons located below, under the 2nd display window; in the 1st window one may consult the matrix-text which originates it. The text's flow rate may be accelerated or delayed by two controllers; the user can also choose to execute the texts in an endless cycle as a continuous creation of new meanings. (Text adapted and translated by Álvaro Seiça based on the Java demo version at http://www.pedrobarbosa.net/sintext-pagpessoal/sintext.htm)

  3. Heading South

The three poems in this hypertext, Ritual, Moving List, and The Lynching, are interlinked. The graphics that appear at the bottom of each textual lexia are the links leading to successive lexias. While, for the most part, one picture represents one poem (as seen below), sometimes a representative graphic will not link to its respective poem, but to another poem or a captioned photo. The captioned photos (or photo lexias) are presented as subtext for the poetry.

  4. Heartbeat

  6. Two Minutes

This British mockumentary consisted of a (fictional) website documenting a (fictional) tv crew who were making a documentary about the solar eclipse in 1999. Readers who signed up in 1999, could see the web site develop from day to day, and were "accidentally" also signed up to receive private emails between the characters. As the eclipse approached the story became more and more mysterious and frightening. Murders happened and readers were able to join in the detective work. After the initial run, the website and emails were archived, but the website was no longer available by 2003. The Internet Archive has the cover page archived but no more. When the website was still online, readers could access the emails by clicking the "admin only" link which gave access to mock unix accounts for the tv crew.
