  2. MetaQuest

    MetaQuest is a text adventure game with fantasy elements that parodies the genre itself. It's called MetaQuest because of its heavy use of meta jokes, and the whole game is quite self aware, often breaking the fourth wall. The game starts with "Much to your disappointment, you find yourself trapped in a text adventure."

  3. Meet in the Corner

    What does it mean to be thrown into a body of water when your own body is constantly “dehydrated”? What is a disembodied black hand doing reaching toward the storefront of a Chinatown optician? And what of our own bodies, living in an artfully fabricated world of fireworks juxtaposed with shootings, elephants walking among scuba divers, and poems taking place, then driving by, in a white BMW? The experience begins and ends in a mouth, which is "Speech," or so Robert Creeley reminds us at the end of his poem "The Language:" "I / love you / again, // then what / is emptiness / for. To // fill, fill. / I heard words / and words full // of holes / aching." Johnson writes, “Sway with the tree until you feel better.”

    Ishmael debuted at the 2017 Spring Thing interactive fiction festival, was selected to be showcased at the PixelPop Festival in St. Louis, was nominated for the "Best Social Impact Game" award at BIG: Brazil’s Independent Games Festival, was an IndieCade Finalist, and was shortlisted for the 2017 New Media Writing Prize

  7. Hilda Bewildered

    Thank you for your interest in this app. Ironically, this page gets more interest now that Hilda Bewildered is unavailable!

    Hilda Bewildered was released 30 January 2015. Apple removes from sale apps which have not been regularly updated, regardless of whether they continue to work or not. In order to update Hilda we need the latest XCode, which requires a newer Mac. When we buy a new Mac, we’ll update XCode and resubmit Hilda Bewildered to the App Store. But we recently updated our PCs, so… we don’t actually need new Macs right now, apart from this one annoying thing.

  8. Mary Rose

    Mary Rose is a digital ghost story. Nunn gave context to her work on University of Alberta's blog:

    Mary Rose is about my children’s great-grandmother and I’ve been writing the story for about six months. I actually have a lot more written and was originally intending it to be a novel. I decided to use some of the writing for the final project of my Digital Fictions class and I was really happy with how the story worked in a digital format. I was actually surprised how easily the Mary Rose story fit into the interactive format.

  10. c ya laterrrr

    c ya laterrrr is the first in a series of exploratory works by Dan Hett covering his experiences during and in the aftermath of the 2017 Manchester Arena terrorist attack, where his younger brother was one of 22 people killed.

    As summarised by Hett himself:

    This game expresses some of the experience, along with exploring some of the what-ifs of choices I ultimately didn't make. All identifying information is removed, there are no names or locations specified anywhere. There are many choices within this game, and one of the many possible pathways does reflect my actual experience. This isn't marked or confirmed anywhere, and all pathways ultimately lead to the same endpoint. 

    c ya laterrr  garnered press coverage, including articles in UK publications The Guardian and The Big Issue, and later won the New Media Writing Prize 2020.

    Hett released second and third works to the series, The Loss Levels and Sorry to Bother You, in 2018.
