  1. ActionScript

ActionScript is an object-oriented programming language originally developed by Macromedia Inc. (now dissolved into Adobe Systems). It is a derivation of HyperTalk, the scripting language for HyperCard. It is now a dialect of ECMAScript (meaning it is a superset of the syntax and semantics of the language more widely known as JavaScript), though it originally arose as a sibling, both being influenced by HyperTalk. ActionScript is used primarily for the development of websites and software targeting the Adobe Flash Player platform, used on Web pages in the form of embedded SWF files. ActionScript 3 is also used with Adobe AIR system for the development of desktop and mobile applications. The language itself is open-source in that its specification is offered free of charge and both an open source compiler (as part of Apache Flex) and open source virtual machine (Mozilla Tamarin) are available. ActionScript is also used with Scaleform GFx for the development of 3D video game user interfaces and HUDs.

  2. Final Cut Pro

Final Cut Pro is the name given to a series of non-linear video editing software programs - first developed by Macromedia Inc. and later Apple Inc. The most recent version, Final Cut Pro X 10.2, runs on Intel-based Mac OS computers powered by OS X version 10.9 or later. The software allows users to log and transfer video onto a hard drive (internal or external), where it can be edited, processed, and output to a wide variety of formats. A fully rewritten and re-imagined non-linear editor, Final Cut Pro X, was introduced by Apple in 2011, with the last version of the legacy Final Cut Pro being version 7.0.3.

Since the early 2000s, Final Cut Pro has developed a large and expanding user base, mainly video hobbyists and independent filmmakers. It had also made inroads with film and television editors who have traditionally used Avid Technology's Media Composer.

  6. Korsakov

The Korsakow System (pronounced ‘KOR-SA-KOV’) is an easy-to-use computer program for the creation of database films. It was invented by Florian Thalhofer, a Berlin-based media artist. Korsakow Films are films with a twist: They are interactive – the viewer has influence on the K-Film. They are rule-based – the author decides on the rules by which the scenes relate to each other, but s/he does not create fixed paths. K-Films are generative – the order of the scenes is calculated while viewing. And, as Florian likes to say, Korsakow is not a religion.

  9. Opertoon

My name’s Erik Loyer. I’m a media artist, designer, and creator of interactive works, both fiction and non-fiction. I founded Opertoon in 2008 to combine elements of games, comics, and music into stories that you can play like instruments, or sing like the songs in a musical.

Why the fascination with musicals? Well, It’s not so much about loving the genre of the musical as it is loving the idea of the musical; the idea of telling stories with music and singing, in the broadest sense.

The musical is profoundly optimistic. It dares to suggest both that life is worth comparing to a song in the first place, and that you, without any more training than the process of living itself, might be able to sing along with the song you’re living in, with perfect pitch and rhythm, eloquently expressing exactly what’s going on for you, right here, right now.
