    In this interview Domenico Chiappe describes his works of both electronic literature and print literature published between the years 2000-2012. He gives insight into the interesting collaborative work for the work of electronic literature and ponders about the difference of the two forms of expressions: the printed book and new media.   5. Time and Temporality in Digital Fictions

    The exceptional quality of digital fictions lies in their inherently dynamic nature, how they may be flexibly programmed to generate new content and alter the already existing contents. This adds a new temporal level, compared to traditional fictions. Already the history of digital fictions (both digital literature and games) presents us with a variety of temporal practices which challenge the conventional ways of understanding fictional time.
    We have at least the following four temporal levels for digital fictions with narrative content:

    1. user time (the time the user spends using the work)
    2. discourse time (the time of the narrative discourse)
    -pseudo time
    -true time
    3. story time (the time of the fictional events)
    4. system time (the time of the digital system states)

  9. A Topographical Approach to Re-Reading Print Books About Islands in Digital Literary Spaces

    This paper interrogates the ‘topic’ of islands displaced from print books into digital literary spaces through a discussion of a web-based work of digital literature ...and by islands I mean paragraphs (Carpenter 2013) http://luckysoap.com/andbyislands/ In this work a reader is cast adrift in a sea of white space veined blue by a background image of graph paper. Whereas horizontally lined loose leaf or foolscap offers a guide for linear hand writing, horizontally and vertically lined graph paper offers a guide for locating positions, or intersections, along orthogonal axes such as latitude and longitude, and time and distance. In this graphic space the horizon extends far beyond the bounds of the browser window, to the north, south, east and west. Navigating this space (with track pad, touch screen, mouse, or arrow keys) reveals that this sea is dotted with islands… and by islands I mean computer-generated paragraphs.
