Culture fissions. Extinction Elegies is about the fragile instability of received meaning at both biological and social levels.

    Jeśli wybitne narracje poznaje się po tym, że są dramatyzacją swojego działania, to popołudnie, pewna historia wzorowo wypełnia ten postulat. W labiryntowym świecie paranoi bohater, niczym Edyp, poszukuje odpowiedzi na pytanie „kto zabił?”. Czytelnik, który za nim podąża, wciągnięty zostaje przez tekst w ślepe odnogi, fabularne pętle i światy możliwe. Powieść staje się alegorią swojej własnej lektury, a jej nierozstrzygalność sprawia, że powraca się do niej latami.

  3. Collection

    The Collection is a short, text driven video about the self-imposed loneliness of a man living behind his video camera. Though a technically simple piece made entirely in LiveType and Final Cut, this brief narrative exposes a raw, unwavering feeling of regret and helplessness.

    Immobilité, the first feature-length film for a mobile device, is story of two women living in a dream-like state. The audio is that of great eeriness, but we are assured by the narration that the women are not here to haunt us. Soon after, we are presented with a very interesting question; a question that is left open to interpretation by an unknown being from the distant future. Annotated by Gary Nasca.

  6. Katastrofetrilogien

    Katastrofetrilogien is a trilogy centered on themes of how stories of historic disasters impact contemporary conversations and relationships. Collaboratively and organically constructed, these three films call upon histories of deadly volcanic ash, great floods, and the plague to tell stories of present day longing, anxiety, and environmental change.

    "The Last Volcano / Det siste utbruddet"
    A story of a catastrophic volcanic eruption and its aftermath is retold by a woman to a man before the slowly turning image of contemporary urban landscape. Though the story seems to reference events of the distant past, its setting and telling raise anxieties related to cycles of memory and forgetting.

  7. Maybe Make Some Change

    (Author's description.) 

    “maybe make some change” merges parser-based interactive fiction with textual and multimedia layering to produce a confrontational exploration of a true event. Inspired by the trial of Adam Winfield, a whistleblower soldier accused of murder, the piece freezes a single battlefield moment and replays it from half a dozen violently conflicting perspectives.

    “change” questions the trust we place in narrators, and explores the fine edge between moral and immoral acts in a war zone. Juxtaposing its text narration with both footage of first-person shooters set during contemporary wars and online social networking pages of the accused soldiers, the piece also challenges the representation of and engagement with current events in mainstream interactive media.

    “change” was part of the jury-award-winning “‘what if im the bad guy’ and other stories” exhibition at the 2011 UC Santa Cruz Digital Arts & New Media MFA show.

  8. 217 Views of the Tokaido Line

    The great Japanese travel artists - Basho, Hiroshige, Soseki - are used as models for a digital journal about traveling the Tokaido train line (Kyoto-Tokyo) with my daughter. Working against the implicit linearity of the journey-the forward motion of the train-the six-minute video loop, with generative haiku, is designed to evoke the ephemeral jolts of contemporary travel and to uncover the moments lost in any narrative retelling.

  9. Maud

    This unique performance of Tennyson’s dramatic poem “Maud” uses programming with OpenGL and other “abandonware” to produce an audiovisual reading. Part of what this work underscores is the nature of digital data, such as the words of Tennyson’s poem. Each letter, space, and line break is represented by the computer as a sequence of 1s and 0s, the on/off signals of binary code. The thing about computers is that it can then use that code to reproduce the same sequence of characters visually, or can use that code to produce different kinds of output. Sally Rodgers and Steve Jones have created a program to read “Maud” performing the poem as an audio-visual conceptual art video. But this is not simply a machine reading what it can’t comprehend, it is also a visualization tool that allows Rodgers, Jones, and us to see and hear things in the poem that we wouldn’t notice in a vocal performance or text-to-speech rendition. And it is also an instrument they have shaped and customized to produce the documented performances through videos. (Source: Leonardo Flores, I ♥ E-Poetry)

  10. @georgelazenby : How Goes the Enemy?

    This conceptual video poem takes the idea of scheduled presentation to a mind-boggling scale. It consists of 19 lines from the @georgelazenby Twitter feed presented in 5-second loops times its factorial factorial, so upon launching, the first line will play right away (5x0), the second will play after 5 seconds (5x1), the third after 10 seconds (5x2), the fourth after 30 seconds (5x6), the fifth after 2 minutes (5x24), the sixth after 10 minutes (5x120), the seventh after 1 hour (5x720), the eighth after 7 hours (5x5040), the eighth after 2 days and 8 hours (5x40320), the ninth after 21 days (5x362880), and… you get the idea. It not only becomes impractical but humanly impossible, since the time scale continues to grow line by line until it is longer than the age of the universe. Can you keep the computer running continuously for more than the 6 years it takes to reach line 11? How about the 75 years after that to reach line 12?
