  1. Reconstructing Mayakovsky

    Inspired by the poet Vladimir Mayakovsky who killed himself in 1930 at the age of thirty-six, this hybrid media novel imagines a dystopia where uncertainty and discord have been eliminated through technology. The text employs storylines derived from lowbrow genre fiction: historical fiction, science fiction, the detective novel, and film. These kitsch narratives are then destabilized by combining idiosyncratic, lyrical poetic language with machine-driven forms of communication: hyperlinks, "cut-and-paste" appropriations, repetitions, and translations (OnewOrd language is English translated into French and back again using the Babelfish program.) In having to re-synthesize a coherent narrative, the reader is obliged to recognize herself as an accomplice in the creation of stories whether these be novels, histories, news accounts, or ideologies. The text is accessed through various mechanisms: a navigable soundscape of pod casts, an archive with real-time Google image search function, a manifesto, an animation and power point video, proposals for theatrical performances, and mechanism b which presents the novel in ten randomly chosen words with their frequencies.

    A dark science-fictional ritual of fertility and regeneration, King of Space takes place in an abandoned starship, circling the edges of a plague-ridden and collapsing solar system, where an escaped terrorist meets the last star-captain and his ship's Priestess. Old man and young, young woman and ageless starship meet and meet again as enemies, allies, rapists, and lovers. The story has elements of gaming; an unwise move can send a character to the kitchen ("hundreds of tiny sandwiches, all alike") or into the rocky caverns of the intelligent and unpleasant starship, where a very persistent elevator is waiting to have a conversation; you can meet the Lady Nii's ancient, dreadful lover, King Brady, or become him; you can fall into a maze of love, or find the dance at the center of the world that regenerates the ship.   4. Suspended

    The player's character has been embedded within a facility that controls vital systems, such as moving public transportation belts and weather control, for an Earth-settled planet called Contra. During the player's five-hundred-year tenure, the player would normally be kept in stasis while his sleeping mind serves as the Central Mentality for the largely self-maintaining systems. As the game opens, however, he is awakened by severe error messages; something is going wrong. The facility has suffered catastrophic damage from an earthquake, and the Filtering Computers are shutting down or becoming dangerously unstable. The inhabitants of the city assume that the Central Mentality has gone insane and is purposely harming the city, as a previous CM had done. The player's task is to repair the damage and restore the systems to normal states before a crew arrives at the facility to "disconnect" his mind, killing him, to be replaced with a clone.

  5. Planetfall

    Planetfall is a science fiction interactive fiction computer game written by Steve Meretzky, and the eighth title published by Infocom in 1983. Like most Infocom games, thanks to the portable Z-machine, it was released for several platforms simultaneously. The original release included versions for the PC (both as a booter and for DOS) and Apple II. The Atari ST and Commodore 64 versions were released in 1985. A version for CP/M was also released. Although Planetfall was Meretzky's first title, it proved one of his most popular works and a best-seller for Infocom; it was one of five top-selling titles to be re-released in Solid Gold versions including in-game hints. Planetfall utilizes the Z-machine originally developed for the Zorkfranchise and was added as a bonus to the "Zork Anthology".

    The word planetfall is a portmanteau of planet and landfall, and occasionally used in science fiction to that effect.

  6. Analogue: A Hate Story

    Analogue: A Hate Story is a visual novel in the style of many Japanese titles in the same genre . It was first published on the author's website and then on the gaming service Steam. The game tells an interactive story of transhumanism, traditional marriage, loneliness, and cosplay. The journey through the final section of the history of a generation spaceship before its failure. The two major characters you interact with in the story are the ships two remaining AI, an archivist AI named *Hyun-ae and a security AI named *Mute, the two ask the player vastly different questions and give entirely different views on the fall of the generation ship. The player is tasked with finding the truth of the tale by listening to both AI as well as building a sort of relationship with them and can end the story at any time by downloading what data they have and leaving the ship to its final fate, however this presents us with the worst of the possible endings. The choices the player makes throughout the story also affect the sequel of the work Hate Plus continuing the interactive work to show another section of the generationships story and gives more insight into the AI themselves.

    Redshift & Portalmetal asks: as climate change forces us to travel to the stars and build new homes and families, how do we build on this land, where we are settlers, while working to undo colonization? The story uses space travel as a lens through which to understand the experience of migration and settlement for a trans woman of color. Redshift & Portalmetal tells the story of Roja, who's planet's environment is failing, so she has to travel to other worlds. The project takes the form of an online, interactive game, including film, performance and poetry.

  8. Beyond Tomorrow

    "Beyond Tomorrow" is an interactive text-based science fiction game made in Twine. The player assumes control of a wealthy business empire whose goal is to lead a successful expansion into space. The story revolves around the different choices and consequences one must face when encountering new planets and worlds. The game includes four unique planets that each has its different expansion possibilities and conflicts. The style of play is entirely up to the player and allows for either a violent or peaceful playthrough, as well as a combination of the two. Some of the themes explored in the game are power, imperialism, law and order, and warfare.

  9. Hologram Will

    "Hologram Will" is an interactive science fiction game. Businessman and millionaire David Mann has passed away, but before his death he recorded a hologram that acts as his will and testament. The hologram has been given to one of his heirs who has become the will's executor. The player can choose between three different heirs who each has their own unique message recorded for them. The inheritance consists of several rare and valuable items collected by Mann, in addition to company shares. As the executor, the player can also increase their inheritance by claiming the other heir's shares. However, legal and other fees will be incurred during this process and can exceed the net benefits of the will, making this a costly affair.
