    I Work for the Web was a netprov held in April 2015 on Twitter and Facebook. The premise: The "I Work for the Web" campaign, created by RockeHearst Omnipresent Bundlers, asked users to Tweet what it would be like if all their Liking, Following, and Favoriting were their jobs. But not everyone was a happy little link laborer. A movement was brewing. Resistance from the workers led to the founding of a union, The International Web and Facetwite Workers. But then something happened at the Web workers favorite diner Nighthawks the night of April 4th. But what? As the struggle between the burgeoning union movement and the Free corporate web played out, leaders, heroes, and cowards emerged in the form of Web workers of all walks of life from cats to children's toys. I Work for the Web was a reflection on the free labor we provide for the Internet and those who capitalize on it. Players joined by using the #IWFW hashtag or by joining the FB group.

  2. if-notNow, if-then-when-else

    if-notNow, if-then-when-else www.alintakrauth.com/ifthen is an interactive 3D html5 piece that looks at the theme of climate change as an environmental disruption, through the lens of glitch art and code poetry. The piece opens on a page of movable squares, purposefully reminiscent of digital pixels, but moving and squirming, much like watching people move through a city from above. These boxes can be clicked on to zoom in and back out again, in order to read the coded and glitched poetry.
    Both glitch and code are clear visual examples of what goes on behind the scenes in a digital world, and here this is juxtaposed with real-world human-made disruption. In the artist’s native home country of Australia, where the glitched footage is taken, this constant tug between too little and too much rain is now experienced on a yearly basis, and the poetry within this piece reflects that sense of too little vs. too much through the cause and affect relationship of “if-then statements” – a particular cause and affect coding statement.

  3. Notes Very Necessary

    Notes Very Necessary is a collaboratively authored web-based multi-media essay that aims to addresses climate change by remixing images, text, and data generated by centuries imperialist, colonialist, capitalist, and scientific exploration in the Arctic. The title is borrowed from an essay authored in 1580 by the Englishmen Arthur Pet and Charles Jackman offering detailed instructions on how to conquer new territories by taking copious notes. In 2015 Barbara Bridger and J. R. Carpenter attempted to follow these instructions by making, finding, and faking notes, images, data, and diagrams online and reconfiguring them into a new narrative. The result is a long, horizontally scrolling, highly variable collage essay charting the shifting melting North.

  5. The Electronic Revolution

    The Electronic Revolution is an essay collection by William S. Burroughs that was first published in 1970 by Expanded Media Editions in West Germany. A second edition, published in 1971 in Cambridge, England, contained additional French translation by Henri Chopin. It is also available as PDF created by ubuclassics (www.ubu.com).

    The book is divided into two parts.

    Part one, entitled "The Feedback from Watergate to the Garden of Eden" invokes Alfred Korzybski’s views characterising man as "the time binding machine" due to his ability to write. Burroughs sees the significance of a written word as a distinguishing feature of human beings which enables them to transform and convey information to future generations. He proposes the theory of "the unrecognised virus" present in the language, suggesting that, "the word has not been recognised as a virus because it has achieved a state of stable symbiosis with the host."
