1. Trope

   Trope creatively intervenes in the ways that readers engage with literary texts by creating a virtual environment that is conducive to and assists the experience of reading the poetic text. The physicality of the text itself is key. Poems and short stories are repositioned rather than illustrated in spatialized, audio and visual format/s not possible in “real” life. In the trope landscape, Second Life users can negotiate their own paths through each creative environment and for example, fly into a snowdome, run through a maze in the sky, listen to a poem whispered by a phantom pair of dentures, or stumble upon a line of dominos snaking around the bay. Trope aims to expand writing networks and further develop the virtual literary community.

2. Reconstructing Mayakovsky

   Inspired by the poet Vladimir Mayakovsky who killed himself in 1930 at the age of thirty-six, this hybrid media novel imagines a dystopia where uncertainty and discord have been eliminated through technology. The text employs storylines derived from lowbrow genre fiction: historical fiction, science fiction, the detective novel, and film. These kitsch narratives are then destabilized by combining idiosyncratic, lyrical poetic language with machine-driven forms of communication: hyperlinks, "cut-and-paste" appropriations, repetitions, and translations (OnewOrd language is English translated into French and back again using the Babelfish program.) In having to re-synthesize a coherent narrative, the reader is obliged to recognize herself as an accomplice in the creation of stories whether these be novels, histories, news accounts, or ideologies. The text is accessed through various mechanisms: a navigable soundscape of pod casts, an archive with real-time Google image search function, a manifesto, an animation and power point video, proposals for theatrical performances, and mechanism b which presents the novel in ten randomly chosen words with their frequencies.

3. Vienna Underground: The Third Woman Project

   Multithreaded multisited multiversion project that played on Third Man by Orson Welles, dealing with themes of bioterrorism. A film was central to all iterations of the project, which involved installations, mobile phone videos, performance, fashion, and site-specific variations.

4. Corporate Text Cannibal

   The work presented a remix of academic texts devoted to creative cannibalism championed by scholars such as Roberto Simanowski and Chris Funkhouser; another scholarly topic remixed was remixology in reference to Mark Amerika. All textual sources together with lyrics by Grace Jones ("Digital Cannibal") were cannibalized into a poem written by the author. It was performed timely filling Jones' refrain, while a number of minimized browser-windows scattered over the projected wall screened the music-video upon deferred-activation.

5. Contemplating Flight

   Framed by various folktales, "Contemplating Flight" explores established female representations and further tests the limitations of participation in a challenging narrative grammatology.

   Artist Statement:
   Like previous artworks on 6amhoover.com "Contemplating Flight" explores the interplay between digital narrative, image and interaction. It aims to question the paradigm of interaction equating to empowerment.

   Bettelheim like many ponders the importance of the forest "Since ancient times the near impenetrable forest in which we get lost has symbolized the dark, hidden, near-impenetrable world of our unconscious. If we have lost the framework which gave structure to our past life and must now find our way to become ourselves, and have entered this wilderness with an as yet undeveloped personality, when we succeed in finding our way out we shall emerge with a much more highly developed humanity." 6. Flog

   [ flux + blog = flog = lecture performative musicale emballée ] Ce dispositif est dédié au lecteur abandonné tout cru au pouvoir décérébrant des news rss ou télévisées défilant sur fond de boucles musicales hypnotiques world. Combattre l'aliénation du lecteur hypermoderne soumis à la vitesse des flux, la rendre visible, la mettre en scène, la rejouer, la déjouer... Voici comment voudrait résister ce "flog", terme qui m'a semblé le mieux à même de dire cet entre deux, ce mi-chemin entre flux et blog, entre vitesse et subjectivité, libération et contrôle, pour ce texte écrit sur une année, la plupart du temps à bord des trains à grande vitesse, dans le bercement de leur rythmique suspendue.
