    Mann provides access to both written and audio texts in a minimalist interface that takes a little getting used to— both online and in the iOS app. It invites clicking around, which results in fascinatingly incomprehensible speech, as the audio files become layered and words jumble together. The great thing about this layering is that, while we lose individual words and their meanings, we gain a heightened sense of the rhythms and musicality of Mann’s speech.   4. Roda Lume

    When I began using video technology to produce my first videopoem, Roda Lume (Wheel of Fire), in 1968, I did not know where the limits were and where my experiments would take me. I was really experimenting on the most elementary meaning of the word experience. A sense of fascination and adventure told me that the letters and the signs standing still on the page could gain actual movement of their own. The words and the letters could at last be free, creating their own space.

  5. ION 1

    ION 1 is a crowd-sourced series of 111 sound poems-in-progress by mic mac (Michael MacKenzie) in collaboration with the Post Art Poets spanning Gertrude Stein's ‘Tender Buttons’ (which can be freely read here: www.bartleby.com/140/). The work layers 7 (and in later instances as many as 32) readings of the ‘Tender Buttons’ poems into single clips. To participate, unaltered found or original human voice recordings may be submitted and will appear in subsequent installments of the poem. Send submissions to my email (below). An award system (called Copycoins) provides funds for more in-depth interaction with the poems. Statistics particular to each reading will appear in the sound-files’ [Youtube] descriptions. Each of the poems here are in their seventh installment. The playlists will grow and be modified as time passes; the poem is expected to run indefinitely - until I or the community lose(s) interest in it. Thank you.   6. Objective Poet

    Objective Poet is a multimedia object that consists of a computer modelled kinetic sculpture in the shape of modified cube accompanied by sound design, reflecting its microclimate. We plan to install the Objective Poet in a public space where people talk a lot: on a central square, in a cafeteria, etc., in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A sound capturing device is going to be attached to the artefact to collect the verbal interactions of the passersby in the close proximity. Analyzed using Maximus P modules, the sounds of these conversations will be converted into a sound poem. The text will be vocalized or transmitted in a multichannel configuration.

  7. 'Roda Lume' by E. M. de Melo e Castro

    Roda Lume is a 2’ 43’’ videopoem, which was broadcast by the Rádio Televisão Portuguesa (RTP) in 1969 and subsequently destroyed by the station itself, and was reenacted by Melo e Castro from the original storyboard in 1986. The work is indeed surprising, as a poem that overlaps text, kinetic text, image, moving image and sound, anticipating and influencing various genres of digital hypermedia poetry mainly launched after the birth of the World Wide Web. It constructs a different notion of space-time, opening a “visual time” (Melo e Castro 1993: 238) of unfolding images and text that comprises a new reading perception.

  8. OTTARAS: 3 CONCRETE - LONG RONG SONG, NAVN NOME NAME, kakaoase

    Projected on a grid of particles that at times seem ordered, while sometimes chaotic and always in flux, Ormstad's constructed language poetry is exposed and read by the author while performing to Mashtalir's pulsating music and Vojjov's atmospheric scapes in the first two works LONG RONG SONG and NAVN NOME NAME. The first is based on Ormstad's language research project from his second book of concrete poetry from 2004. Here he creates words that may exist or not in any language, and this is related to Vojjov's creation of numbers, geometric forms and abstract shapes. The second work is made from Ormstad's collection of poetic family names used in Oslo, Norway, also here accompanied by Vojjov's world of cosmic shapes. The last track, kakaoase, is based on a printed picture by Ormstad, made of sound poetry where he's playing with the Norwegian language. Most of the words have no – or almost no – meaning, and here Mashtalir's music makes this an exceptional possibility for participating and dancing to concrete poetry!

  10. OTTARAS: 2CONCRETE

    In the autumn 2014 I was reading in the TARP festival in Vilnius and in the ZEBRA film poetry festival in Berlin. This was motivating for extending my project in the direction of sound poetry. Meeting the Russian composer Taras Mashtalir in e-Poetry2013 in London and later in Bergen, has resulted in a great collaboration. Together we are OTTARAS, and so far we have produced six sound poetry tracks based on my earlier works and with videos made by Alexander Vojjov and Yan Kalnberzin.
