1. Speech to text: between the real and the unreal

   Context aware technologies (Augmented Reality) allow for novel forms of interaction with physical environments. These technologies feature properties that allow information to be situated in the environment in a context aware manner. 
   There are diverse ways in which information can be integrated into the environment by such means. The Microsoft Hololens, and related technologies, allow the placement of virtual information in locations that are congruent with physically tangible objects and environmental elements. You may place virtual images onto physical walls, punch virtual portals through to other (virtual) spaces in actual floors, or place a virtual ball on a physical table so that when the table is tilted the ball will roll along the surface of the table and drop onto the floor, bouncing on impact. The virtual object and the physically tangible space the virtual object has been placed within are, within the logic of the system, of the same ilk. The imaginary and the tangible are merged in a novel manner.

2. Seduced by the Gap: Writing (E-Lit) Criticism into Crisis

   This paper invites the “dangerous vertige” once brought on by the “endless oscillation of an intersubjective demystification” at the heart of the crisis of literary criticism famously illuminated by Paul de Man in 1967. I investigate two conventions of writing e-lit criticism (and digital art criticism). The first utilizes the figure of the participating observer/reader in a phenomenological narrative that serves as a textual or formal analysis of the primary object. The conjuring of such a figure is often necessary to the articulation of e-lit’s capacity to deliver us from a finite and single text, in a way that hearkens back to critiques of the fallacy of a finite and single interpretation.

   Text in its nature and very architecture is anxious, it is neurotic. It is only held in a seemingly apparent stasis. A work with text is never truly finished but ceased. The paragraph is a shivering mass of bent lines as is a single sentence. The systematic function of text is to infer a voice in a code of bent lines and spaces between. The sculptural nature of the lines of letters is akin to an exhibition of forms encoded with implied speech and thought. It also is like the ground awaiting crack and quake, like the sky waiting to break open in rain, like the nervous shudder of breeze from calm.
