  1. Panorama de la literatura electrónica hispánica

    La relación entre la ciberliteratura y la literatura tradicional es actualmente muy compleja. A pesar del número creciente de obras digitales y del aumento de uso de Internet, la ciberliteratura tiene dificultad para atraer la atención de los lectores, de los editores y de los críticos. El público general, aunque sea usuario activo de la red, parece no interesarse por esta nueva forma narrativa que utiliza el hipertexto, los recursos multimedia y la interactividad. Ante esta situación nos preguntamos: ¿Hasta qué punto los géneros nacidos digitales heredan a la imprenta o son modalidades híbridas (transmedia, crossmedia, multimedia, mash-ups, pastiches) de los géneros triunfantes en el siglo XX (fotografía, fonógrafo, radio, cine, televisión)? Y en fin, la pregunta fundamental: ¿Puede hablarse de literatura cuando la mayoría de las obras nacidas digitales han hecho de las palabras (LITER) un elemento residual, siendo sustituidas por la NET y sus imágenes, sonidos, videos, animaciones, arte digital, diseño gráfico, etc.? En suma, ¿es ya la LiterNETura, LITERatura?

  2. Une poésie pour tous les langages artistiques : poéticité et lecture numériques

    Ce travail examine les concepts de poéticité et de littérarité appliqués aux poètes numériques : il analyse de façon comparatiste les œuvres de Philippe Bootz, Belén Gache et Óscar Martín Centeno afin de distinguer les traits qui définissent la poésie numérique. L’article montre quels éléments de poéticité sont restés immuables, nous permettant de continuer à appeler poésie ces nouvelles formes numériques, et quels sont les traits qui ont fait avancer le concept de poéticité au point de nous obliger à redéfinir certaines des caractéristiques de ce que nous considérons traditionnellement comme littérature.

  3. Archiving Roundtable

    Listed as one of the main themes of the Bergen 2015 ELO conference is the following question: is “electronic literature” a transitional term that will become obsolete as literary uses of computational media and devices become ubiquitous? If so, what comes after electronic literature?

    The notion of obsolescence has been a recurring issue in electronic literature since at least 2002, the date of the ELO Conference at UCLA. At that time, archiving became a general concern in the field. ELO responded with documents such as Born-Again Bits, Acid-Free Bits, and the ELC 1 and 2 Collections. Since that time, with the continual evolution of computational media and devices, the problems of archiving have continued to grow more complicated. The panel proposes to address issues of Archiving based on this re-wording of the conference theme: is electronic literature a transitional practice that will become obsolete as the multiplication of forms of both computational media and devices make literary artifacts more and more difficult to preserve?

    Bleeding Through: Layers of Los Angeles 1920 – 1986 is a digital work produced by the Labyrinth Project Research Center of the University of Southern California. Part paper, part DVD-ROM, part real, part fiction, it is based on an unsolved mystery, and unfolds the story of Molly, an Irish immigrant who moved to Los Angeles in 1920. She was at the heart of an investigation in the late 50’s early 60’s as she was the main suspect in the death of her second husband Walt. The project gathers hundreds of different data types like maps, pictures, texts, newspaper articles, books and movies, through which the user navigates in order to ultimately, resolve the crime. But how does the user build an interpretable narrative through this hypermedial database?

    From the publisher: This most unusual book results from the NATO Advanced Research Work­ shop, "Designing Hypertext/Hypermedia for Learning", held in Rottenburg am Neckar, FRO, from July 3-8, 1989. The idea for the workshop resulted from the burgeoning interest in hypertext combined with the frustrating lack of literature on leaming applications for hypertext. There was little evidence in 1988 that hypertext could successfully support learning out­ comes. A few projects were investigating hypertext for learning, but few conclusions were available and little if any advice on how to design hyper­ text for learning applications was available. Could hypertext support learning objectives? What mental processing requirements are unique to learning outcomes? How would the processing requirements of learning outcomes interact with unique user processing requirements of browsing and constructing hypertext? Should hypertext information bases be restruc­ tured to accommodate learning outcomes? Should the user interface be manipulated in order to support the task functionality of learning outcomes?

    The essays in Hypermedia and Literary Studies discuss the theoretical and practical opportunities and challenges posed by the convergence of hypermedia systems and traditional written texts.

    Consider a work from Shakespeare. Imagine, as you read it, being able to call up instantly the Elizabethan usage of a particular word, variant texts for any part of the work, critical commentary, historically relevant facts, or oral interpretations by different sets of actors. This is the sort of richly interconnected, immediately accessible literary universe that can be created by hypertext (electronically linked texts) and hypermedia (the extension of linkages to visual and aural material). The essays in Hypermedia and Literary Studies discuss the theoretical and practical opportunities and challenges posed by the convergence of hypermedia systems and traditional written texts. They range from the theory and design of literary hypermedia to reports of actual hypermedia projects from secondary school to university and from educational and scholarly to creative applications in poetry and fiction.
