  2. Institute of Contemporary Art

    he Institute of Contemporary Art in Moscow (ICA Moscow) was launched in 1991 as an independent non-profit organisation, as an initiative by several Moscow artists and critics to represent the alternative movements in Russian art of the 1970s-1980s. The founder and director is Dr. Joseph Backstein.

    The Institute was designed in order to realize exhibitions, research and educational projects, intended to form the basis of intensive discussions and to assist in creating an intellectual atmosphere around the phenomena of contemporary art and culture.
    In 2001 the ICA/Moscow joined with a new and permanent partner, the State Center for Museums and Exhibitions "ROSIZO", Ministry of Culture, RF.
    All these initiatives are aimed at re­integrating contemporary Russian art into the structures of the international art world.

    Artport is the Whitney Museum’s portal to Internet art and an online gallery space for commissions of net art and new media art. Originally launched in 2002, Artport provides access to original art works commissioned specifically for artport by the Whitney; documentation of net art and new media art exhibitions at the Whitney; and new media art in the Museum’s collection.

  8. Уральский государственный университет им. Горького, факультет искусствоведения и культурологии

    Факультет искусствоведения и культурологии создан в 1991 году на базе кафедры истории искусств Уральского государственного университета, основанной в 1960 году, и организованной в том же 1991 году кафедры культурологии. Помимо искусствоведов факультет одним из первых в стране за пределами Москвы и Петербурга стал готовить специалистов в области культурологии, формировавшейся в те годы как наука. Инициаторы создания факультета — доктор философских наук Лев Наумович Коган, кандидаты философских наук Всеволод Иванович Колосницын, Татьяна Федоровна Кардаполова, Татьяна Анатольевна Рунёва, ставшая первым деканом. С 2000 по 2006 год факультетом руководил доктор философских наук Сергей Леонидович Кропотов.

    Ныне в состав факультета входят кафедра истории искусств, кафедра культурологии и социально-культурной деятельности, кафедра музееведения и прикладной культурологии. Возглавляет факультет выпускница кафедры истории искусств, кандидат искусствоведения Т. А. Галеева.

    THE EKATERINBURG BRANCH OF THE NCCA functions both as a museum and exhibition center and as scientific research organization. The branch first began its work in 1999, having chosen as the basis of its activity the strategy of introducing contemporary art into the public spaces of the city. Currently EBNCCA’s top priorities include taking an active part in the strategic planning and cultural policy regarding contemporary art overseen by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, formulating and carrying through programs and projects in the realm of contemporary art, integration into international cultural processes. We offer a wide conception of culture that will enable people to understand and to feel that culture is a part of our everyday life.

    The mission of CYLAND is to make St. Petersburg the center of media art of Russia and to create an active network of media artists.

    CYLAND is a production company. Powered by the lab, new works of art are created.

    CYLAND is also educational organization. It helps artists to get oriented in the world of cutting-edge technologies, and it provides support in the form of computer programming, engineering, equipment and information.

    CYLAND organizes exhibitions, workshops and seminars. It participates in international festivals, competitions as well as in web-based projects and educational programs.
