  1. Non-Translation as Poetic Experience

    In my paper I present some points of view concerning strategies for experiencing electronic literature and art made in different languages, and suggest ways for dealing with language diversity in electronic literature. Although educated as a sociologist, I am not a researcher but an artist, and use some of my own works of concrete and digital poetry as a basis for my presentation. This includes two paper-based works of concrete poetry (audition for fenomener uten betegnelse and bokstavteppekatalogen), the screening of my first work of video–poetry LYMS (2009) and my latest film “when” (2011). Because of the nature of my works – and a lot of different works in the world of e-lit – I use the concepts literature and art in a broad sense.

  4. Animated Concrete Poetry Between Stillness and Motion - a Close-Up on Ottar Ormstad's Oeuvre of Works

    Throughout the last seven years, Ormstad experimented with both moving images and letters, conceived narratives, and styles that according to him reflect a continuum of the printed work he created in the 60’s. If the continuum also holds true for concrete poetry and poetry-films in general is a question addressed in my talk.

This literary database is coordinated by Rui Torres, at the University Fernando Pessoa, in Oporto, Portugal, and was funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia [Foundation for Science and Technology] (FCT) and the European Union, under two main research projects: “CD-ROM da PO.EX: Poesia Experimental Portuguesa, Cadernos e Catálogos” [The PO.EX CD-ROM: Portuguese Experimental Poetry, Notebooks and Catalogues] (2005-2008) and “PO.EX’70-80: Arquivo Digital da Literatura Experimental Portuguesa” [PO.EX’70-80: Digital Archive of Portuguese Experimental Literature] (2010-2013).

  8. Digital Arena: Ottar Ormstad - a yellow y in motion

    Ottar Ormstad is a Norwegian concrete poet and digital artist. In this presentation he speaks about his print works and shows his experimental films.

    The presentation comes along with a lecture "From Print to Kinetic Visual Poetry" by PhD Scholar Patricia Tomaszek (University of Bergen) who demonstrates how Ormstad’s print-based work intrinsically implies motion.

    The series is produced by the University of Bergen Electronic Literature Research Group & Digital Culture Program in collaboration with the Bergen Offentlige Bibliotek.

  10. 'Roda Lume' by E. M. de Melo e Castro

    Roda Lume is a 2’ 43’’ videopoem, which was broadcast by the Rádio Televisão Portuguesa (RTP) in 1969 and subsequently destroyed by the station itself, and was reenacted by Melo e Castro from the original storyboard in 1986. The work is indeed surprising, as a poem that overlaps text, kinetic text, image, moving image and sound, anticipating and influencing various genres of digital hypermedia poetry mainly launched after the birth of the World Wide Web. It constructs a different notion of space-time, opening a “visual time” (Melo e Castro 1993: 238) of unfolding images and text that comprises a new reading perception.
