  1. Bridging Intertextuality and Intermediality from a Cultural and Literary Perspective

In this paper we argue that technological applications, and the intermedial practices that the World Wide Web allow can play an important role in developing educational and cultural policies and practices, expanding the stock of shared heritage while maintaining cultural diversity, and multiplicity, despite problems such as accessibility, the digital divide and growing economic focus, copyright and open-access, the organization of vast amounts of information and its preservation as part of our cultural heritage. Our previous research has emphasized the potential of intermediality to serve as a model that not only increases our understanding of the mechanisms of media convergence but also applies to parallel phenomena in intercultural and educational contexts. We have proposed that the basis for a constructive conceptualisation of social change is mediated through technology and that the good use of intermediality as a vehicle for socio-cultural needs to be further explored, both theoretical and practically, in its aspects of production, distribution, and usability.

  2. Scripting Writing and Reading in Jim Andrews's Digital Poems

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the theoretical relevance of kinetic poetry for studying the interaction between language, digital media, and signifying processes. Several writers have been using digital poetry to investigate meaning production as a function of formal operations upon linguistic, computational, and other cultural codes. Interactive kinaesthesia, the main algorithmic trope examined here, enacts the temporality of writing and the temporality of reading in medium-specific forms and genres that call attention to the way their machine and human processing happens. The cinematic enactment of time in the combined motions of computer-executed code and human-activated display will be seen in digital poems by Jim Andrews. His scripts are analysed as models for specific semiotic and interpretive processes. Computer performance and reader performance become co-dependent and intertwined as an entangled field. 3. Lirismo Verbal e Virtual: Travessia de Sentidos

The investigation subject of this dissertation is the configuration of erotic verbal lyrism and erotic virtual lyrism based on reflection sonnets by Florbela Espanca (1894 – 1930) and digital verses/poems by Rui Torres (1973). The sonnets were selected from Poemas Florbela Espanca, by Florbela Espanca and organization by Maria Lúcia Dal Farra and the digital verses/poems “Amor-mundo, ou a vida, esse sonho triste” from the electronic address www.telepoesis.net, by Rui Torres. Our purpose is to analyses the lyrism produced by both authors, indicating likeness and differences that the two lyrical forms manifests. The research problem-question was: is there a fusion between erotic verbal lyrism produced by Florbela Espanca and the erotic virtual lyrism produced by Rui Torres ? Or even better, assume that Florbela’s poetry produces a erotic lyrical voice, and the Rui Torre’s poetry, a virtual lyrical voice, we can tell that Torre’s poetry dialogues with the Florbela’s eroticism ?

  4. Flash Script Poex: A Recodificação Digital do Poema Experimental

In this article I analyze digital re-readings of experimental poems contained in the digital archive
PO-EX: Poesia Experimental Portuguesa - Cadernos e Catálogos [PO-EX: Experimental Portuguese Poetry - Chapbooks and Catalogues]. This project was developed by the Center for the Study of Informatic Text and Cyberliterature (CETIC) at Fernando Pessoa University (Porto, Portugal). I consider how experimental poetics is applied and transformed in the processes of electronic remediation of visual and concrete texts by E. M. de Melo e Castro, Herberto Helder, José-Alberto Marques, Salette Tavares and António Aragão. While digital recreations redefine the source texts by means of specific programming codes, they also reveal the complex linguistic and graphical coding of the printed page.

  5. New Strategies of Anthropophagy in Brazilian/Portuguese Digital Literature

This article intends to discuss an example of contemporary digital literary creation, based on anthropophagy as a cultural mechanism. Oswald de Andrade, one of the leaders of Brazilian modernism, published his Anthropophagic Manifesto in 1928, where he argued that “what is not mine interests me”. In fact, translated into our contemporary culture, this Manifesto could explain some issues of Brazil’s intellectual and cultural environment: the “only what is not mine interests me” could be complementarily read as “what is mine does not interest me”; the anthropophagus would disdain that which is his own and ceaselessly search for the references to the Other. That attitude would be important to understand not only cultural processes, but it could also describe some strategies of contemporary digital literary creations, as Amor de Clarice, created by the Portuguese artist and intellectual Rui Torrres.

  8. Portuguese Experimental Poetry: Revisited and Recreated

Portuguese Experimental Poetry, claiming to be an avant-garde movement, arose in Lisbon in the mid 60’s. It got its name from the title of a magazine, Cadernos de Poesia Experimental, which became the herald of the movement. Two issues were published, the first in 1964 and the second in 1966, organized by António Aragão and Herberto Hélder. The first issue was presented as anthological, since it included texts not only of Portuguese poets and musicians but also Brazilian, French, Italian and English artists. It also had a section which included poets of several epochs and tendencies, such as Luis de Camões or Quirinus Kuhlmann, representing respectively the mannerist and baroque aesthetics of European poetry.
