Short biography:

Anita Bacic is an Australian artist who explores media old and new, with a focus on interactive experiences. Bacic is fascinated with the construction of stories, images and experiences and how we as individuals can actively contribute and interact in these processes. She continues to explore works which encourage curiosity, participation, personal connections and self-reflection that in turn can potentially challenge our perceptions and how we see and interpret the world around us.

Bacic's practice focuses on creating experiential works for individuals using digital and non-digital means. Her work is increasingly exploring location-based works in public space mediated by mobile smart technology, like locative site-specific work "an/other time", or with Bacic as mediator and performer in the "mobile obscura" works.

She continues to explore camera obscura [since 2007] or dark spaces by presenting them as slow-spaces/experiences in contrast to our current hyper media-saturated world.

Bacic has a Master of Fine Arts, School of Media Arts from College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales, Sydney and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Tasmanian College of the Arts, University of Tasmania. She has been a recipient of grants and awards, including Australia Council Arts Grants for New Work (Visual Arts), University of Tasmania C-Domain Grant, Tasmanian Regional ArtsFund Program, Arts Tasmania grants for Individuals, AGNSW Dyason Bequest, and Ian Potter Cultural Trust Grant. She has participated in numerous residencies both internationally and in Australia, including the Cité Internationale des Arts artist residency in Paris, amberPlatform in Istanbul and Artist in Residence at Artspace, Sydney.

Bacic has exhibited both nationally and internationally and has participated in Festival of Voices, Parramatta Lanes, White Night Melbourne, Nextwave Festival, Electrofringe New Media Arts Festival, ANAT’s Portable Worlds I & II (AUS); amberPlatform and Istanbul Biennale Parallel Event 2013 (TK), Videobrasil and File (BR).
