  1. OCO

“OCO”  esplora l'architettura tridimensionale delle lettere O, C, e I, e la molteplicità dei significati (in portoghese) che emergono quando la lettera I appare e scompare ritmicamente. Questi significati emergono attraverso le associazioni cognitive  dello spettatore e  dalle relazioni spaziali percepite tra le lettere. Originariamente presentato nel 1985 come holopoem interattivo (ormai perso), “OCO” è stato ricreato nel 1990 come poesia interattiva digitale.

Minitel animated poem shown online in 1985 in the group exhibition "Arte On-Line", a minitel art gallery presented by Companhia Telefônica de São Paulo. 9. Quinze aphorismes personnalisés

In 1985 Paul Braffort and Marcel Bénabou’s program “Fifteen Personalized Aphorisms” was presented at the Centre Pompidou. In the 1990’s, Éric Joncquel created the online version on the ALAMO website. This program is a digital remediation of the Oulipian method of creating aphorisms. The politician Jean Jaurès formulated his famous aphorism “A small bit of internationalism distances us from patriotism, but a lot brings us very close to it” from Roger Bacon’s “A small bit of Science distances us from Faith, but a lot brings us very close to it.” Even though these two sentences discuss two very different subjects, the method of formulating an aphorism allows us to place these two subjects in the same lexical context. At its most essential, an aphorism unites what is separated and separates what is united (this sentence itself is indeed an aphorism!). The four most common tools of doing this in the Oulipian method are equivalence, antithesis, parallelism, and proportion. Jaurès’ quote is an aphorism of implicit proportion because the relationship between the words created by the aphorism is not immediately obvious.

  10. Signagens

Signagens (Signings) is a series of videopoems (1985-89) developed by E.M. de Melo e Castro with the support of the Portuguese Institute for Distance Learning (IPED) and later by the Open University of Lisbon, in its electronic and digital TV studios. According to Melo e Castro, "this project intended first of all to investigate video possibilities as a new medium for reading poetry. It was meant to be used in classes of literature and of Portuguese language. Very soon I realized that intersemiotic translation of print-based visual and experimental poems was obvious, as video seemed to me a perfect medium for animation of letters and words." (Media Poetry: An International Anthology, 2007: 180-181) For the full series, including all the videos:
