  1. svevedikt ("poetry floating in the air")

    "svevedikt" ("poetry floating in the air") consists of seven parts, each in a loop. Every poem is created out of Norwegian words, fixed in the same position all through the animation, but exposed in different degrees. Each poem starts up exposing a few letters. The number of letters is increasing until all of them are seen. Then the number of letters is reduced in a new way. The words are selected in a non-semantic way, and each viewer will experience this differently. Both the images and the sound of the letters when read are important for the experience. The positions of the words have much in common with how the poet made concrete poetry in the sixties.

    In the film ”when” Ottar Ormstad is transferring his practice as concrete poet to the realm of a programmable networked space, blending his poetry with specially composed modern music with electronic elements. His b/w photographs developed in the darkroom are presented in combination with words in different languages, some of them exceeded into ”letter-carpets”. Some sentences are from well known songs or films, other letter-combinations are invented by the author.

    The film is telling a story about life and death, basically from the standpoint of cars, rotten in a field in Sweden. The narrative is very open, and each viewer may experience the film very differently. This is also dependent upon the language background, any translation is – intentionally – not given.

    when has been screened at festivals for experimental short film, so far in France, Romania, Russia and Norway.

    Description from Festival Images Contre Nature, Marseille 2013: programme identité

    "natyr" est la troisième vidéo dans laquelle l'artiste norvégien Ottar Ormstad combine à de la poésie concrète, image, musique et son. Dans ce cas, la vidéo se construit sur le travail du peintre norvégien Knut Rumohr (1916-2002) ayant surtout réalisé des peintures abstraites à la tempera, inspirées par la nature d'un fjord sur la côte ouest de la Norvège. Ormstad, une fois de plus, continue de mélanger des mots de différentes langues. Un concept qu'il a présenté dans "La Non-Traduction comme Expérience Poétique" à la conférence Translating E-Lit, en 2012 à Paris. Le mot "natyr" ne peut exister dans aucune langue, mais peut être éprouvé grâce à différentes associations liées à la nature. La vidéo (HD 16:9) est faite pour une diffusion plein écran (4:45 min). Exceptée l'animation d’Ina Pillat, direction et création sont de Ormstad, photographie et musique incluses.
