1. Electronic Literature Collection, Volume 2 Launch

   On 2 May 2011, the Electronic Literature Research Group at the Department of Linguistic, Literary, and Aesthetic Studies, University of Bergen hosted two special events at the Bergen Public Library celebrating the launch of the Electronic Literature Collection, Volume 2. The Electronic Literature Collection, Volume 2 is an international anthology of more than 60 works of electronic literature published under a Creative Commons license online and on DVD.

   The publication of the Electronic Literature Collection, Volume 1 in 2006 had a significant impact on the field of electronic literature, giving readers and educators a common set of referents in the form of a diverse collection of literary works made for digital media. The ELC, Volume 2, published in 2011, offers new digital poetry, hypertext fiction, interactive fiction, multimedia documentaries, and a variety of other forms of electronic literature. The University of Bergen program in Digital Culture was one of the sponsors of the publication of the ELC 2 and will make use of it in its future courses.

2. PW12 Performance Writing Weekend

   The weekend comprises performances, readings, a workshop on Writing & Mapping, ‘events on the plinth', an exhibition and discussions about multi- and inter-medial writing. We will be considering how, as the printed book comes under threat, new writing will be made, displayed and talked about. See attached PDF full details.

4. Digital Arena: Ottar Ormstad - a yellow y in motion

   Ottar Ormstad is a Norwegian concrete poet and digital artist. In this presentation he speaks about his print works and shows his experimental films.

   The presentation comes along with a lecture "From Print to Kinetic Visual Poetry" by PhD Scholar Patricia Tomaszek (University of Bergen) who demonstrates how Ormstad’s print-based work intrinsically implies motion.

   The series is produced by the University of Bergen Electronic Literature Research Group & Digital Culture Program in collaboration with the Bergen Offentlige Bibliotek.

   Stories Beneath Your Feet and Fingertips: Playing Locative Stories by Kathi Inman Berens

   Tuesday, November 4, 2014, 6-8 pm, Bergen Public Library

   Kathi Inman Berens, Fulbright Scholar of Digital Culture visiting UiB from the University of Southern California, showed literary works set in cityscapes from Los Angeles, Toronto, Paris, London, even a locative story set in Bergen.

   Humans have always scrawled stories onto their physical environs -- cave paintings, decorative friezes, eighteenth-century broadsides, graffiti, billboards. Equipped today with smart phones, artists and ordinary people are telling stories pinned to exact geospatial location using Google Maps, Twitter, and Layar (Augmented Reality).

6. Digital Arena: Combinatory Cinema — Scott Rettberg

   Scott Rettberg presents collaborative, combinatory films, and an interactive artwork he has produced in collaboration with filmmaker Roderick Coover.

   Three Rails Live (2012), a web-based combinatory film developed by Rettberg, Coover, and Nick Montfort, produces new juxtapositions of image and text on each run, delivering narrative fragments from a contemporary story of personal and environmental dissolution sandwiched between “perverbs” that deliver a “moral” to each story.

   Toxi•City (2013-14) is a feature-length combinatory climate change film that layers segments of a speculative narrative of life in the toxic environment of the Delaware River Estuary after a series of hurricanes have devastated the landscape with the actual stories of area residents who perished during Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

7. Launching the Electronic Literature Collection Vol. 3

   This event was introduced in 18 of February at The Stedman Art Gallery at Rutgers University in Camden. This new ELC - third volume features 114 works from 26 countries in 13 languages. The latest collection, drawn from over 500 submitted and solicited works, represents a wide range of forms and styles, including poem generators, bots, interactive fiction, mobile apps, and more.
